Default Polyquats in shampoos?

I learned from a Curl Chemist article that polyquats #'s 10 and 44 in conditioners are easily removed.

If polyquats are in shampoos (in both the old and new versions of Deva Low Poo, for example) what removes them then? Will a clairfying shampoo need to be used?

Deva Low Poo ingredients (old formula):
Aqueous Extracts of: Achilea Millefolium, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria), Cymbopogon Schoenanthus, Humulus Lupulus (Hops), Melissa Offcinalis (Balm Mint), Rosmarinus Offcinalis (Rosemary), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Propylene Glycol, PEG-75 Lanolin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-7 Amodimethicone, Polyquaternium-10, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polyquaternium-7, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance.

Ah, polyquats. My favorite topic.

It's *really* important to realize that not all polyquats are the same. While all have a tendency to stick to hair to some extent, the ones that are in shampoos are light and easily removed -- they are there to impart softness more than anything else. Plus, when polyquats are combined with salts and surfactants (prominent in shampoos), they barely stick to the hair at all. It would depend on what kind and how much polyquat is in there. Polyquat 10 is not one to worry about in a shampoo.

I'm trying to put together another roundtable for my blog on the topic of polyquats. Will keep you all updated on when that's published.
