Should I do it?

Hey everyone! I'm just getting back on this site after being gone for the summer.

My issue is this -- I just made a huge Sally's trip. I got a Denman to play around with, some Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol to try, some GVP Conditioning Balm (I'm currently using the Aldi brand but I remember liking this stuff too), and one impulse purchase -- a bottle of the GVP knockoff of Nexxus Humectress conditioner.

I remembered reading some good reviews about this stuff on here and I quickly scanned the label and didn't see any problems, but now that I got it home I realized that it has mineral oil pretty high up on the ingredients list. I really don't feel like taking it back, and I'm seriously considering just using it and then doing a sulfate poo if I feel build up and even if I don't at least doing one after I'm done with the bottle (I tend to use one bottle of conditioner at a time, but rotate types when I buy a new bottle).

What do you guys think? I'm a pretty strict CG-er. I'll maybe shampoo a couple times a year just to get off any build up I may have inadvertently gotten. How bad could this stuff be for my hair?

Here are the ingredients, if you're curious:

Water (Aqua), Stearalkonium Chloride, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Mineral Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Wheat Flour (Triticum Vulgare) Lipids, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Keratin Amino Acids, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Magnesium Citrate, Manganese Citrate, Avocado (Persea Gratissima) Oil, Soybean (Glycine Soja) Sterol, Ceramide 3, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Polysorbate 60, Polysorbate 20, Potassium Sorbate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Petrolatum, Stearyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance (Parfum), Red 4 (CI 14700), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Blue 1 (CI 19140), Red 33 (CI 17200), Linalool
Personally, I've always been of the mindset that you should just try it, considering that the worst thing that could happen is your hair hates it and feels like straw or something (which is still fixable, too).

You can't know for sure unless you try. Some people find that it really doesn't act the same way cones do, others hate it.

Worst case, you have to sulfate (and really, we used to do it everyday, so I think your hair will be okay with one use and a good moisturizing follow-up) the stuff out.

I say do it, if you're curious.

Thanks! That's what I've been leaning towards doing. I've been CG for so long that I think my hair's in pretty healthy shape, and a little bit of build up is not the end of the world.

You're right about the shampoo thing, too. It IS made to go on hair, after all, and some people use it every day. Using it for a specific purpose -- that is -- to get build up off my hair every once in a while, is not the same as being in the endless cycle of having to shampoo that the CG method tries to steer us away from. And in the end, it's just hair! (No matter how much I may be guilty of obsessing! )
