Default Fine 3A hair

I posted this in the 3A forum and while it got 60+ views, it got no responses. So, hopefully I can get some help here.

Lately, my hair has been getting alot of buildup and then flattening out as the day goes by. I also notice alot more frizzies.

I have a very simple routine - Bumble and Bumble leave in, air dry. I only shampoo a couple times a week and I think the Bumble and Bumble is not only building up, but I think it's too heavy for my hair.

Can anyone recommend CG shampoo/conditioner and a light (see above flat hair syndrome) leave in.

I read some of your siglines and you have alot of holy grails, but since I haven't posted on the hair board since about 2001, I have no idea what most of you are even talking about. So, I am looking for some specific recs.

Thanks!

ETA: Currently I am using Deva One conditioner or Giovanni 50:50 (I think) and I don't love either one of those. I also picked up some HE Body Envy, it's nice but makes my hair very soft, almost too soft.

Help me please!!!

I looked up the ingredients of the Bumble and Bumble leave in:

Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Sambucus Nigra Flower Extract (Elder), Wheat Germ Glycerides, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Bromide, PEG-100 Stearate, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Lactamide MEA, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Polymethoxy Bicyclic Oxazolidine, Propylparaben, Fragrance (Parfum)

I'm not sure what in there would be building up since it looks CG and you are shampooing anyway, but with your fine hair, maybe it is too heavy for you. I like a leave in right now, but it has a-cone, so I don't think you'd be interested (it's GF S&S Leave in).

You say you shampoo a couple of times a week. Is that with sulfate shampoos or low poos? There's a current thread right now here on the General Discussion board about low poo recommendations.

It appears that you don't currently use gel. It sounds like you may need to try a good gel and see if that will help with lift at your roots and with frizz control. I like to scrunch in my HEBE gel, a decent amount of it, and scrunch a lot into very wet hair. I get root curl and good clumping without even plopping by doing this.

Also, keep in mind your climate. Are you in a dry climate or a humid one? That will make a big, huge difference with the products that will (and won't) work for you. You could search for threads about high and low dew points and humectants for more info on this.

There are lots of specific threads about good CG conditioners. I'd recommend doing a search and you'll find lots of info, whether you want to use drugstore or are willing to order online, etc.

Good luck!

For me, desert climate+porous hair+CG=inconsistent results!

I am in NorCal, so it's a happy medium between overly dry and overyl humid. And I have to say, I have looked EVERYWHERE for HEBE gel. I think I am going to have to give up and order it from drugstore.com.

I mix my shampoos, sometimes I use Deva Lo-poo, sometimes Y2C, and currently this weekend I tried the HEBE shampoo and conditioner.

I had stopped using any products but a leave in, I could go back to using a gel if I needed to.

I think you know you've got this coming:

Why not try pasties and a smile, you fickle thing, you? That way no one will notice your hair. (Re: HOT Men thread.)

I guess I've learned my lesson the hard way.

I suppose it's just me and the pandas, now.

Alright! I confess... I still adore you, I swore the pandas to secrecy, but the crickets said if I didn't pony up some serious cash they were going to tell you!!

There, I said it! Whew!!

I had to open this thread because I was shocked to you in these parts, Gekko.

I have fine 3A hair, and use Kinky-Curyly Come Clean shampoo once or twice a week. I use KC Knot Today every other day as a rinse out conditioner, and alternate with Aubrey Organics' GPB conditioner (protein - your hair probably needs it) and Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. I rarely use a leave-in because my hair doesn't need it anymore. On the rare occasion I do use a leave-in, I use Jane Carter's Revitalizing Leave-In, which is a lightweight spray.

For styling, I use KC Curling Custard and Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee (a pencil eraser sized dot for hold).

As for build up, I think cetrimonium bromide in your Bumble & Bumble causes build-up but I don't remember where I read this, so it may be a useless tidbit.

I know, I feel so lost over here!!

I think I am just so fed up with my hair! I am going back to CG full on, are the KC products CG? I think they are. My hair is sad again today, but I was trying the StruttsWife method and clearly I did not use nearly enough gel. I am having to rethink my hair routine completely.

Thanks for the tips, I will look into the Aubrey Organics, I think they sell that at Trader Joe's.

Good luck with your hair.

If I knew anything about dew points, products (my only constant is no sulfates), or the Struttswife method, I'd chime in helpfully.

I would! I swear!

I feel so out of the loop, I have gotten so lazy with my hair that now that I am trying to do something with it, it's like being a newbie all over again!!

I don't even know why I would care about dew points! Does my dew point hate me???

I have fine, 3a sized (with tons of root curl) low porosity hair. Sept, 08, I started to cleanse with the natural soap bars instead of cowashing. Not only tightened my curl, but increased volume. You can see the difference in my fotki pictures. I spent my first winter as a curly instead of a wavy. My hair looked like my signature picture everyday.

My hair likes most of the products listed in my signature. Being a pj, I am always trying new things. I rotate products and seldom use anything more then twice a week. For the most part, my hair prefers the more natural products.

Thanks, Kathy. I don't have access to fotki at work, so I will check out your link when I get home. Who makes the aloe fix gel?

I am intrigued by this flax seed gel business and I think I might order one of BotticelliBotanicals. I see people make their own, but that is just SO not happening for me.

Curl Junkie makes the Aloe Fix and a lot of other wonderful products. The FSG isn't very hard to make.
