Curly Break through!!

Yesterday, I went to an art fair and the cool weather and sun made my curls react so badly that I had to style them dry and pull them into a braid. By the time I got home the braid look like one huge dreadlock. After a shower and condition they felt nourished but still look like the stringy crunchy mess I've gotten used to from entering my second curly girl week

Later though, I was looking through kid pictures of me, and saw one where I had fuzzy, but perfectly formed curls -- probably mom didn't have time to brush it after I'd gotten out of a pool. But I realized that though I'd been shampooing everyday back then, and conditioning only once every two weeks, with no products and being brushed everyday, that my curls still looked decent, that maybe now I was being to hard on my curls.

So I switched out my gel from one with 'extra-strong' hold to one with 'flexible' hold--and the results are AMAZING. Instead of a crunchy stringy, patchy results, I got wonderful loops. They can still be a little frizzy, but I probably need a more moisturizg conditioner.

I'm just so happy!!!
That had to be a great feeling! It's nice to have something work for you.

please share what it is that you were using in your hair.

The only way i find it easy to uncrunch my curls is with shea butter but that's after i use some kind of curl definer on them.

Otherwise i would tryna figure out. If you have found an easier way, please do share

Instead of using Garnier's Cream-Gel (I thought if it was diluted with leave in it wouldn't be as cruchy). I'm using Aussie's 'Catch The Wave' mousse + leave-in. For some reason mousse doesn't dry crunchy in my hair, it doesn't make my hair bigger, like it does some curly girls, but it gives it some nice volume.

I bend at the waist and rub the mousse between my fingers and finger-comb my hair. (I actually cotton comb it, where I lace my fingers together and run my hair through them). Aussie isn't curly girl I don't think, but I think any mousse would work.
