Does anyone elses hair hate Aloe?

While completely revamping my CG routine after being CG for almost a year now, I have realized that my hair absolutely undeniably hates Aloe. The only product I have been able to use it in somewhat is KCCC but even that causes frizz.
When I use a product with aloe in it, it feels like I'm putting straight alcohol on my hair or something. It becomes instantly sticky and squeaky would be the best way to describe it. Any slip I had from my conditioner is gone and the frizz shows up instantly even on wet hair.
Does anyone else experience this?

I am in search of good products that don't contain any aloe but I'm realizing the list is very short and most of the ones that don't do contain glycerin or something else I'm trying to stay away from.
I'd love to hear some product recommendations.

Even Too Shea did nothing for my hair (Aloe Vera Juice is the second ingredient), and I finally gave up on Aloeba. When I tried using KCCC, I got the exact scenario that you described : it felt like putting alcohol on -- hair felt kind of stripped, with all slip gone. I also tried FOTE straight -- bad results.

Recently on Jillipoo's blog she had a panel of experts discussing aloe, and there is some difference of opinion on whether or not it is moisture or a humectant. For me, it seems to act like a humectant.

With our dry climate here, I also avoid glycerin and all humectants. Even in moderate dews (40s to low 50s) my hair does not like them at all. So, I feel your pain that it is hard to find products that do not contain them. Do you live in a dry climate and that is why you avoid glycerin?

As you can see by looking at my signature, I am no longer strictly CG. After 7+ months of frustration and an inability to duplicate those all-too-rare fabulous CG hair days, I'm using 'mild' cones now, with low poos, and having better results. (What can I say? I guess my hair likes them.) But for CG recommendations, here are some that I have had (and still have!) success with:

Lustrasilk Shea Butter and Mango Cholesterol. Really good stuff. Print out the page with it on the Sally's website, and then take that in to show the clerk and order it through them. Typically, it's not at the stores.

If you have fine hair : Aubrey Organics GPB is really good.

For gels: Aussie and HE gels are good and don't have aloe or glycerin. HEBE is my standard gel.

Another conditioner that I've researched and would like to try is the EO Rose and Chamomile. It sounds to me like an aloe-free Aloeba and is very highly rated by many. Likewise, another that I've read is good for low dews, and that I want to try is the Pink Boots.

I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in! Good luck.

For me, desert climate+porous hair+CG=inconsistent results!
I'm not a fan of aloe either. It makes my hair feel dry. I'm not sure if it actually dries my hair out or if it just gives it a producty dry feel to the touch. I don't plan on using it consistently enough to find out. I used FOTE AVG.

Yes, it dries my hair out too. I love glycerine though.
Sarah.

Based in the UK. 2-something (2b?) hair. Very porous, fine and brittle/fragile

Hair loves: Drip drying, glycerine, shea butter, oils
Hair hates: Plopping, any kind of gel, most conditioners (scalp issues).
I have tried using FOTE so many times. It does nothing for my hair at all. I wanted it to work, but I have given up.
Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one but it is still tough to find CG products that do not contain some form of aloe at some level.

@pelicano - I have not noticed a hatred for glycerin but I am starting to think that it contributes to the frizz on my fine hair so am trying to avoid it, especially for the cold winter fast approaching.

I'm still hoping we will get some product recommendations cuz I'm getting desperate.

My hair also doesn't like aloe either. I have been suspecting for some time that this is because I have high porosity. Whether the "experts" determine if aloe is a moisturizer or a humectant, I do believe that if you have high porosity aloe can be a bad thing either way. It it is a super moisturizer, the aloe give my hair too much moisture so that the cuticle expands and can't lay flat causing frizz. If its a humectant, it does the same thing, but can also do the reverse by sucking out moisture when the dews are low. So either way, aloe is a bad thing for my hair, especially if I don't seal in the moisture. I know some may disagree with my theory about aloe and extremely high porosity hair, but hey, based on how my hair responds and what I've noticed in others who don't like aloe, there may be some validity to it.

I wonder if it is more a texture thing rather then a porosity thing? I say this because the Porous head RCC loves her KCCC year round. She's med-coarse texture then again so are you bela so this is quite puzzling

For me I have to be careful of Aloe in High Dews with certain product combinations. But once the cold weather comes my hair loves Aloe in any shape or form!

That's a a really good point DEL. Aloe is a strange beast because mixed with certain things like in some conditioners and KCCC it doesn't bother my hair as much and is at least tolerable.
I'm pretty sure that the texture of my hair is fine to medium as it does like certain proteins in moderation.
I can handle glycerin in the summer to a point but it doesn't really do anything special for my hair.
As tendrilly said I would say it definitely does not act like a moisturizer in my hair but acts as a very strange humectant if it is one. Has our resident curly chemist ever had anything to say on the topic? I searched but came up empty.

I've only been CG since this spring, but so far, my hair doesn't like aloe either. I'll try it again when the weather gets really cold, but right now it's a write off. I can handle a little bit in my FSG, but it's better without it. I've tried AOMM and AOB5 Gel, and I wanted so bad to like them, but all I got was frizz. My hair reacts the same as the poster above - the instant I put aloe in it, it gets squaky and stripped feeling, and frizzes up, even while wet

I'm curious about the AO you're using in your signature though because those are high in aloe and my hair can tolerate them but doesn't really like the feel over all. You seem to do OK with them though?

I have fine and not very porous hair, and I haven't gotten much frizz from using straight aloe. It does seem to help my scalp, though. I don't think it does a heck of a lot for my curls- I got the same squeaky feeling in my hair from it and I don't notice a lot of curl enhancement, but I'll keep using it anyway because it has reduced my scalp itch. Lowpoo didn't help it, sulfate poo didn't help it, different condish/scrubbing/etc didn't help, but aloe does.
No cones since 08/25/09. Occasional low poo.
Fine, normal to low porosity (still not sure which), ii, 3a/3b curls

i dont hate aloe, but i want to share my experience. to me, aloe is like a primer. i really don't know what it is actually doing... but it does seem to make my curls clumpier. i havent used it in the winter time, so we'll see what'll happen. i always use it tho! im scared if i dont, i wont get nice curls! lol.

My hair does not like straight aloe. But it is ok with straight aloe mixed with another product (gel, cream, etc) and it is ok with it in products. I want my hair to like it on it's own but so far the hair is being stubborn about that so I have about given up on it. Every once in a while I will try it again...but so far..no luck.
