Curl Creme Obsession

hi everyone,

i've decided that i want to start using a curl creme and have become obsessed with finding a product that doesn't contain the following:

1. cones
2. sulfates
3. polyquats
4. drying alcohols
5. oils, waxes

i've been searching for 2 days now, but don't think that there is a curl creme out there without the above 5 ingredients, except for maybe kinky curly curling custard (but even that doesn't seem to be sulfate free according to curlmart, plus i can't tell if it is actually a curl creme). so before i give up on my search, i thought i'd ask you guys, just in case i have missed something.

thanks in advance for any feedback! :-)

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that KCCC is sulfate free. They may not have bothered to add that label to it because usually you only have to worry about sulfates in shampoos.

I think that KCCC is going to be the only curl "creme" that you are going to find that fits your list of requirements. And not really because of the first 4, but because of #5. Most of the curl creams or curl enhancers have an oil or wax in the list of SOME kind (that I could think of and look up).

KCCC is a unique product, but I think you can classify it with the curl cremes because I believe they are supposed to carry the double duty of being moisturizing as well as curl enhancing. Well, some of the more textured girls use KCCC to elongate curl, but some of peeps here that are in the looser curl category use it to enhance curl. KCCC is an enigma lol.

I feel your pain, because I don't like oils on my hair at all. Its taken me forever to find a conditioner that is actually emollient but oil free.

thanks goobernut! i really appreciate your reply. i was a bit worried about using KCCC because of my 3a/3b hair type, but i'm excited to hear that it can work to enhance and not elongate my curls.

i've noticed that curlmart is inconsistent with their labeling of sulfates with styling products (some advertise as sulfate free while others don't), so you are probably right about KCCC being safe. thanks again! i think it'll give it a try :-)

As goobernut replied, many of the products do have vegetable or emulsifying wax. Not sure why no oils?? A product I like much better than KCCC, at this point, is the Donna Marie MiraCurl Curling Gelly.

Key Ingredients: Purified water, aloe vera juice, Linseed extract, plantago extract, vegetable glycerin, xanthan gum, Provitamin B-5, avocado oil, herbal infusion of Rosemary, Slippery elm, hibiscus and beet root, potassium sorbate, silver citrate, citric acid and fragrance.

It does have avocado oil, but it's pretty far down the ingredient list. I think you'll find that a lot of these products might contain some oils or butters, but you may want to look at where they are in the list.

thanks for this recommendation kathymack. i had looked into donna marie co co curling creme, but didn't know about the miracurl curling gelly, so that is really helpful. and thank you for listing the ingredients! in your experience, how does it outperform kccc? is it more of a gel or more of a creme (or a combo of both)?
