I cannot get my "old" hair back. Please help!

What am I doing wrong? Is my hair missing something or getting too much of something? I just can't figure it out. My hair used to look like the 1st picture all the time. (please excuse the dumb face in my picture)...

Now it looks frizzy, feels gross and is a tangled mess, like the 2nd picture. The thing that makes me the most sad is that my curls are so droopy now, and I don't know why.

My routine has changed slightly..... I cowash with V05 instead of suave.
I ran out of elucence moisture balancing conditioner, so now I use Giovanni TTTT.
Before, I ONLY used CK, re:coil, moptop gel to style. My hair started getting gross so I dropped the re:coil b/c I thought it was drying. Now I switch off CK/moptop gel and CJCCCC/BRHG to style (due to recommendations on this forum because people thought I was getting too much protein).

So.. I tried changing some things when my hair started looking dry/frizzy, and now I feel like nothing I do makes it better.

Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks so much in advance !!

I have fine hair and when mine went through a phase like this I used some AOGPB - first time I left it in for about 10 mins and rinsed out. Next day just used as a rinse out. I did this for about 5 days and it certainly perked my hair up. It could be that you are needing some protein. I know that the suave coconut has some protein in it too. Now I just use a protein type co as a rinse out a couple of times a week (I have suave coconut which I got from USA - we don't have that here in the UK - the rest of the week I just use a normal co for my co wash). I don't use a leave in on a regular basis tho sometimes I'll add a bit co to the ends of my hair and canopy if they feel a bit dry - but only a tiny bit - say bean sized. Hope this has given you some ideas.

I'm going through a similar phase, myself. At least, I hope it's only a phase. On a good day, my hair looks similar to your first photo, except shorter. Yesterday was AWFUL! It was flat on top...normally, I have a lot of "spring". I don't know if it's over conditioned or the changing dew points have affected it adversely. We're having dewpoints in the 50's instead of the 70's and cooler weather.

Tonight I'm going to shampoo with Deva LowPoo and see if that helps. I feel like my hair is dry, but maybe I've been weighing it down with conditioners. I've just used CJ CCCC with great results earlier in the week. Splurged on KC curl pudding last night at whole foods, also bought some AO honeysuckle rose. I may try a little of the honeysuckle rose to condition.

My vote is for more protein, too. My guess is that because you ran out of the Elucence condish, your hair is not getting the protein levels it needs. I've never tried the Elucence, but I use the Giovanni Direct Leave-In, which has protein (not sure if the Tea Tree kind does), and I use it every day. Or, if you don't want to mess around with trying new products, you could go back to the Elucence without also adding the re:coil so you don't overload.

Thanks for your input! I guess I never really thought I needed MORE protein because I was always told that I was getting too much. But it makes sense. I'm going to order the Elucence again and maybe try a protein treatment?
Does anyone know of some good PT's?

Thanks again you guys are awesome

My hair is really different from yours so I don't have a ton of advice (everyone else is taking care of that!) but i wanted to say that your hair is super cute and you are really pretty! Good luck.

Some girls with curls, especially those with fine hair, have a tendency to become too over-moisturized with emollients and need additional protein treatments to restore the health of their hair. This is also helpful for lightened (bleached) hair that has not been properly reconstructed after the chemical service:

Combine:

1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon mayonnaise (the full fat kind, not the reduced fat)
2 teaspoons olive oil

Massage well into hair from scalp to ends, then cover with a plastic processing cap. Process for one hour at room temperature, then cleanse hair with a non-sulfate cleanser.

I can usually just co wash this out without any probs - if you have a low poo tho you could use it. (add some co after this if your hair feels a bit hard). Also you could get some sauve coconut till your ordered co arrives.

I got the Nexxus Emergencee PT and used it last night. I could already see a difference in the curls before it was dry. There was much more definition and they weren't as stringy. The curls still aren't back to how they used to be but I guess it will just take time.
I think that my hair can take a lot of protein (and needs it!) so I'm going to continue with high protein products for a few days and see if it keeps improving.

Thank you soo much for all of your advice! I would still be stressing about my hair if it weren't for all of you

I took the advice y'all gave diana2164, and it helped my hair. It's not back to what it was but MUCH better. Still a little flat on top.

I washed w. Deva LowPoo and used some Joico K-pak conditioner I had on hand as rinse-out. Used about a dime's worth of AO Honeysuckle Rose as leave-in. Then scrunched in BRHG. The curls are much springier today. About an hour later, it occurred to me that my best hair happened after making a cocktail of leave-in and BRHG and then scrunching in. I'm going to try that tomorrow night.
