Spritz and Condish Washing for Porous Types+Thirsty Curls Everywhere!

The first few times I used this method it worked great but within the week it stopped. I couldn't fiqure out why but now i have. I was using way too much conditioner and my hair got over conditioned. So i guess it's very important to not use more than a tablespoon (for me). Man i love this web site. Just listening to others helps me determine what is going wrong with my hair.
Del.........you seriously could become an advisor and get paid. I know why don't you invent a helmet diffuser. Design it so we could lean over our beds with it on.

I tried this today with very good results. I used GVP CB which is normally a little light for my hair. I also used about 1tsp CJ Daily Assurance for rinse out since I I didn't feel enough slip. I could tell in the shower that my hair wasn't as wet as usual. It never had that seaweedy feel I usually look for.

My drying time was definitely shorter and my hair feels soft and well moisturized. Lately, I've been using AOHR as a rinse out to keep it moist. My hair feels much nicer with this method and the lighter conditioner.

This is a winner for my porous hair. Thanks Del and everyone else who contributed.

I finally got this to work for me! Yay!

First I got my hair balanced, which it needed anyway. I think my porosity is back to normal. My wave pattern perked up a lot!

Today I tried the Spritz & Condish again, I just sprayed the hair lightly and put in about 1 Tbsp of GFTN on my hair. I let it sit for oh....10 minutes? The I hopped into the shower and got my hair wet (didn't rinse the GFTN out), and added Salon Care Honey Almond especially at the roots to cleanse. I rinsed the whole mess out, and surprisingly I didn't need a heavier CO like I usually do! I could have probably left my hair alone at that point, but I grabbed some more SCHA and ran that through for a just a bit, then rinsed. No LI. I used some homemade stuff and then some EcoStyler (had to add water for this one), and I can barely keep my hands out of my hair! I love it and I'm so glad I tried it again!

Hi all, I'm new to this site & I tried this method today. I got great results!! I have very thick hair & it has looked horrible lately. I think I have been over conditioning it. Anyway, I love my hair today, even with a nor easter on the way. The only problem I had was it took the same amount of time to dry for me (which is a long time!). Did I leave too much water in my hair when I got out of the shower before I plopped? How much water does everyone normal scrunch out before getting out of the shower?? Any suggestions? Thanks all!
Excellent! More positive feedback THANKS for letting us know

curlywinn I'm not sure if you're "porous" or not. It seems that the more porous girls are the ones noticing a difference in drying time.

meadowlark I told you about this at our curly gathering in the Summer. Do you remember???

Hi Del!

I can't figure out if i'm porous or not, I just can't figure out how to do it. But I know I have too much volume. I would love my hair to lay a bit flatter to my head if that make any sense. My hair did poof out a little today after I spritz condished but it did start to rain so that may have been the culprit. BUT my how my curls came back today! I was in love with my hair for the first time in a long time. Tonight I am also trying to sleep with my hair in a pineapple (which is a new term for me). I have never been able to refresh my hair the next day & wear it down. So keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks Del & everyone else for all your advice and expeirences!
I've continued to use this method, my hair loves it. My hair dries so much faster than when I first tried it. Now instead of 6 hour drying times I get 2.5-3 hour drying times as long as I don't use kccc.

Thanks Del for posting this method!

Still working to tame the frizz.
I woke up @ 3 a.m. this morning and decided why not get a head start and spritz and condish. I used GVP CB-a little less than 2TBS. I wrapped my hair in a flour sack towel and went back to sleep.

When I got into the shower at 5:30 I noticed that I had missed some areas. I could feel these areas were "wetter". I used 1tsp kckt to help with slip. I still had very good, if not spotty results. Since my hair is so porous I can see why this method works for me and the super soaker did not. My hair had good definition all day; and it was very wet here today.

I have not found acidic rinses to be helpful in taming "puff". I also didn't have success with coconut oil pre poos.

Del, I wish I had remembered you talking about this. Think of all the time I wasted. Do you use coconut oil pre poos in addition to this?

I've continued to use this all week. It definitely works well for me. I've tried different condish and combos of, cut down on LI...still works! It is giving me better clumping and much less frizz. I like! The only thing I haven't noticed that the more porous girls are reporting is a decrease in drying time. It takes the same amount of time, but I don't care. I like the results!

Well, I liked this at first....but then my scalp rebelled. My hair is just SO DENSE it was taking a huge amount of condish and my scalp has clogged pores now. Also I had some frizz that wouldn't go away because of starting on dryer hair than normal with the condish (spritzing rather than wetting) so while I've gone back to wetting first, I'm still rinsing upside down. I wish I could've gotten it to work for me but it just didn't. sigh......

rymorg, maybe altering some things might help? For example, I don't bother getting the condish on my roots. It's not going to absorb, and my scalp can get blocked pores too. Oh, and getting my hair balanced to begin with made all the difference in the world!

I couldn't decide today if I wanted to DT (which my hair really needed) or leave it alone to let my scalp calm down. The DT won out...LOL....but next off day I'll leave it alone if my scalp is still bothered.

rymorg I have scalp issues too with co-washing. Did you Low Poo your scalp? I always scrub my scalp with Low Poo every wash or I get itchy. The only time I may opt to use condish only is if I wash 2 days in a row. I mentioned this earlier and I edited my original post too just to be clear

meadowlark-when I use coconut DT's I low poo and wash the normal way or I get build up.

I'll definately try that when my scalp calms down and update you.

eta I went back and reread your original post since you edited it...and it makes total sense now. I was loading conditioner all over and leaving it and scrubbing.....I'll definately try again probably later this week. Thanks del....

Thought I'd update you that I think I figured out the scalp outbreak.

I'd be using Elucense as a CO wash with the supersoaker method over the last week.....The ingredients were fine I thought....till I noticed biotin at the bottom. When I take biotin orally it makes me break out, so that has to be it. Acne from it orally.....acne from it topically (especially with how much I was using). I may list it....I picked up like 3 liters of it where I was b/c they had it at a beauty supply store!!!! LOL.....

I'm so glad I found this method. I tried it today with AOHR and it worked great. My hair is better moisturized with a lot less volume. And it dried in half the time. Thank you so much for posting this!
HOORAY Maci!!!!!

rymorg I thought of something else with your scalp. I like to spritz some Lavender Mist on my scalp(sometimes I forget) when I get out of the shower after I've washed. I mentioned this in my first post about the CG handbook recommending this for extra cleansing. It does help to make my scalp feel cleaner

Ok, so I tried this AGAIN - there must be something I'm not getting. I canNOT get conditioner thru my mass of hair when it is not "WET". Its just wont disperse, I need tons and my hair gets all tangly in the process.

What gives? I would like to see if this works or not!

I'll say this to all the SSM lover out there- if SSM works for you then there's a good chance S&C won't. It's OK you gotta do what works for your own hair
Okay I've tried this method 2 or 3 times now and I have to say I like it a lot! I haven't really noticed the cut down in drying time but I do get more volume near the roots and a more uniform curl pattern. I also end up spending less time in the shower.

Here's how I've been workin' it:

*Spritz until damp
*Smooth GVP Balm over canopy and then scrunch into ends
*Clip my hair up with a big claw clip and check my email/drink tea for 15 or 20 minutes
*Get in shower, wash body/face, shave, etc while hair is still in clip.
*Take out clip, flip upside down and rinse out GVP
*While upside down, I scrub my scalp with a good amount of Bioessentials Rosemary Mint conditioner and then rinse it all out upside down.
*Get out of shower, apply leave in and stylers, plop and diffuse!

ETA: Del, I think you're right about SSM and S&C working for different people. SSM didn't work for me at all.
