Need a CG ingredients expert to cast an eye over these lists!

I'm quite new around here, been lurking for a couple of weeks

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I live in the UK and am keen to discover as many CG-friendly products as possible. Currently, ACV and Boots pink curl creme are my best friends!

I was in Boots today and got very excited to see that the brand 'Naked' have expanded their silicone-free range to include lots of excellent looking/smelling/feeling (from what I could gather by playing with them at the store!) styling products.

I've read enough of this site to realise that silicones aren't the only things to worry about on ingredients lists, so could a kind and knowledgable CG-er cast an eye over the following?

Gorgeous Curls - curl taming cream
Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl alcohol, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl ether, Sucrose laurate, Alcohol, Glyceryl stearate, Stearalkonium chloride, Corn starch modified, Mangifera indica (mango) butter, Parfum, Chlorphenesin, Benzyl alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, Citric acid, Benzyl salicylate, Amyl cinnamal, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Eugenol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Benzyl benzoate, Limonene.

Take Control - firm-hold styling gel

Curl Tamer - curl styling mousse
Ingredients: Aqua, Hydroxypropyltrimonium hydrolyzed corn starch, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Sodium cocoyl glutamate, Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, Corn starch modified, Aloe barbadensis extract, Parfum, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Phenoxyethanol, Citric acid, Benzyl salicylate, Amyl cinnamal, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Eugenol, Geraniol.

Keep In Shape - flexi-hold putty
Ingredients: Aqua, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea butter), Glyceryl stearate SE, Cetyl alcohol, Corn starch modified, Dehydroxanthan gum, Copernicia cerifera cera (carnauba wax), Cera alba (beeswax), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) butter, Mauritia flexuosa (Buriti) oil, Parfum, Sodium stearoyl glutamate , Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl salicylate, Amyl cinnamal, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Eugenol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Benzyl benzoate, Limonene.

Fix It Fast - pump hairspray
Ingredients: Aqua, Alcohol denat, Hydroxypropyltrimonium hydrolyzed corn starch, Aloe barbadensis extract, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl salicylate, Amyl cinnamal, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Eugenol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Benzyl benzoate.

I notice that there's beeswax in the putty and alcohol in a couple of their products (I was expecting it in the hairspray) but can you give me any info regards any of the other ingredients?

Also would ACV or lo-poo get rid of beeswax (or any other dodgy ingredients you can find in the above!)?

Many thanks in advance, apologies for the long post

Hi,
The ingredients look fine with the exception of the beewax and alcohol denat you already noted. Here is a list of harsh surfactants you will want to avoid for your reference
  • Alkylbenzene Sulfonate
  • Ammonium Laureth or Lauryl Sulfate
  • Ammonium or Sodium Xylenesulfonate
  • Dioctyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate
  • Ethyl PEG-15 Cocamine Sulfate
  • Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate
  • Sodium Cocoyl Sarcosinate
  • Sodium Laureth, Myreth, or Lauryl Sulfate
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
  • TEA-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate
I think a low poo will remove beewax, but I'm not sure about acv doing the job. Beeswax is not supposed to cause build up but some find it does build up. Overall, these look like nice products to try. When I was in the UK, I loved the boots product line, but I've only seen it in one CVS in the Los Angeles area where I live and they didn't have the pink curl cream. Let us know how these work out.

The Naked range is generally fine to use - though some of the conditioners have PEG-cones in them, some of the shampoos are somewhat drying (despite no sulfates) and the beeswax and alcohol, as you noted. But otherwise, they should be fine unless you have other sensitivites. (My mother, for example, can't use Stearalkonium chloride, and my hair doesn't like anything related to corn.)

Aw thankyou guys for your input

Feel much better about experimenting now these products have been 'okayed' by other CGs!

My hair loves CG so far. I experimented with some Boots purple gel (mixed with old favourite - pink curling creme) last night with fabulous results. Now I'm waiting for my MOP Curl Defining Cream to arrive so I can have a play with that.

Thanks once again x
Just thought I'd pop a couple of pics up here and on the UK curlies board to show how much my hair loves Naked!

I bought six products from their styling range, on these pics I've used Gorgeous Curls cream and the firm hold gel.

Boots pink used to be fantastic on my hair, but recently I've fallen out of love with it somewhat. So pleased I've been able to find products to give me the effect that pink boots USED to (I'm sure I'll go back to experimenting with it in the future, maybe it just built up a little).

*The pics were taken 2 mins apart, even though my hair looks different colours! The more auburny one was taken in my very yellow bathroom light that also gave me a nice orange halo!*

Hi, UK culy here :-) I have been resisting the Naked curl creme but I know it's futile! I have to say I did not like the serum or gel much ( a shame as are cone free). so my hopes are not super high, although like you Boots pink doesn't rock my world anymore when it once did. I am nervous about the glyverin in the curl creme as high glycerin products can make me frizz in the Uk climate, but hey it's cheapish, worth a go! Anyone here try the mousse?

p.s. your curls look great with the cream, hope it does the same for me! (and maybe the gel will work better with it too!)

Hi, I was just thinking about the Naked range todayy! UK Curly here too

Was in Boots at lunch and I bought the Naked Shine Glossing hair treatment as I'm going to make an avocado and egg protein mask tonight and use the Naked conditioner afterwards - these are the ingredients:

Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl alcohol, Brassicamidopropyl dimethylamine, Glycerin, Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, Dicaprylyl carbonate, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Aspartic acid, Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, Dicaprylyl ether, Lauryl alcohol, Parfum, Panthenol, Jojoba wax PEG-120 esters, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Citric acid, Limonene, Benzyl benzoate, Hexyl cinnamal, Linalool.

Does that all look okay to use after a protein mask?

I'm all new to this so any advice would be fab! (sorry to hijack your thread - your hair looks amazing, mine is such a mess at the moment *sobs*)

I want my curls to be pretty
