dry ends, split ends

My hair is very dry at the ends and I have a few split ends. I cant seem to grow my hair longer than just past my shoulders. I'm assuming its because of breakage. Any solutions to this problem?
Thanx for your help.
Hair type 3A/B,
texture- fine
porosity- low.....except end but think thats from the damage.
  • Use a deep conditioner every other month. Cover the plastic cap with a hot, damp towel and leave it in for 10 minutes. Rinse hair with ice-cold water and a few lemon slices to lock in moisture.
  • Use a hydrating, leave-in conditioner.
  • Look for products that contain silicone.
  • Keep your hair trimmed at least one inch above a split end to prevent further splitting.
Hope this helps!
I thought if you do CG that cones are not to be used. I havent used them in a very long time...

Most of us stay away from the cones.

You don't have texture and porosity of your hair, so it's hard to make specific recommendations. Here's the main thread on nc.com: Texture, Porosity, and other Hair Type Madness Struttswife (aka Tiffany) also has information on her website: http://www.livecurlylivefree.com/ Her ebook is a great investment. Lots of information that should help you.

If your hair is fine or medium, you want to do regular protein DTs to help with the damage. To begin with--maybe once a week to ten days. Always follow with a moisturizing DT. Your hair sounds really dry. You probably want to do moisturizing DTs at least once a week and maybe twice a week--until your hair improves. (Once with protein, once without.)

Regular trims, even while growing out, should help keep split ends away.

What protein DT do you use?

I notice that the ends are dryer and more brittle on after sleeping. I've tried a satin pillow case and that doesnt make a difference.
Not sure if that has any revelance in the dry ends or not. Or if it is a protein or conditioner issue.
Just got done reading about texture and porosity..
I'm fine and low porosity except on the ends which is medium porosity but I think thats because of the damage.

I use the professional Emergency on occasion and a few other protein DTs. The CJ jar conditioners are great, as is the DermOrganics Mask.

For me, getting regular trims, whether I want them or not, really helps.

My hair doesn't grown past my shoulders either. It actually never has. My hair was dry and I used to get tons of split ends. Our hair properties are very different, but I'll share what is working for me so far. I'm still new.
Just going CG moisturized my hair a lot. After my scalp transitioned, I only cowash once a week and wash once a week. I do one or the other every three days. I think doing the least aggressive cleansing method you can get away with is a good idea.
I've only done a few PT's (because I'm new), but I think they help too. I've been doing these every week & 1/2 to 2 weeks. I should maybe do them more often, but I'm lazy.
I suspect some my hairs problems may be due to hygral fatigue.

I use coconut oil to prevent hygral fatigue. Coconut oil also helps retain protein and adds moisture to the hair.

I add coconut oil to my hair for at least 10 minutes. Then I do the spritz and condish method for porous heads. (probably doesn't apply to you?)

I only add the rinse out for 5ish minutes. I think this method also helps prevent hygral fatigue.
I have no idea if my hair would grow any longer or not now. My hair is more conditioned and I have almost no split ends. Pre cg the main reason for me to get a hair cut was split ends that were almost uncombable.
Good Luck

A little rosemary oil rubbed into the ends is meant to be good for helping stop split ends. (I think tho that if you have them then only trimming will actually get rid of them)

I did a co wash with aubry conditioner. acv rinse yesterday and used matrix biolage for a leave in. Boy I dont have very many dry ends. My hair isnt as tangled this morning. So I'm thinking that my hard water and products were just built up on my hair. But still am going to try a protein therapy. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanx for all the suggestions.
