2nd day hair - finally found something that is working for me !!

I have finally figured out a way to do 2nd day hair !!! I thought I'd share it ...

I scrunch in a curl butter or styling cream. The two products I have used successfully are Darcy Botanicals Peach Kernel Hyrating Milk and Califa's Moisture Cream. My preference is the Peach Kernel Hydrating Milk.

While my hair is still pineappled from the night before, I scrunch in some of the Peach Kernel cream. I leave it alone while I wash my face. It seems to work better if you let it soak in.

After a few minutes, I take my hair out of the pineapple and scrunch in some water. I leave it alone and put on my makeup. Once it is almost dry, I scrunch in some Oyin's Whipped Pudding. It gives me some volume, hold and definition. The Califa Moisture Cream also works well, but I have to watch not to use too much or my hair will look greasy. The Whipped Pudding is more forgiving, gives me more volume and more hold.

If I have any frizz, I'll use some pommade and just run it over the top of my head (GENTLY). I like Ohm's Custard for this.

I have never been able to scrunch water in my hair before - it always created massive amounts of frizz. The dressing cream allows me to do it. My hair also lasts the whole day - no build up of frizz.

HTH ... it is the first time that I have actually gone to work with 2nd day hair ... Before it was a weekend, what the hell type of look !!!

I believe Darcy's Botanicals is found on etsy. I'm going to go there and check it out. I did scrunch in a tiny bit of KBB Butter last night before putting my hair in a pineapple and my curls looked really good when I took it down this morning. I want to try FBG's method since I can never use water on my hair the 2nd day without getting instant frizz.

I've been putting my hair in a pineapple at night and using AOMM. I think I just realized that if I use some kind of whipped pudding at night, I might not turn out so greasy. Thanks for the idea Frizz

What I like about the Peach Kernel Hair Milk (finally called it by the right name .. I think ) is that it isn't too greasy, but still has some substance to it.

I think the key (at least for me) is to have something on my hair to coat it before scrunching in any water. The curl refreshers (sprays) are great for a mid-day freshup for me, but don't work at all for me on 2nd day hair - they just create frizz. The 2nd day, I definitely need a creamier product scrunched in before I scrunch in water.

I suspect there are other products that will work the same way. I tried the DM CocoHemp Buttermilk tonight to see if it was a possibility. I think it shows promise!! It is quite a bit thicker than the Peach Kernel Milk though. I scrunched in about 1/2 a dime's worth of the Buttermilk and then wet one of my hands. I rubbed my hands together - and continued scrunching it in my hair. The small amount of water made the product easier to distribute. My curls looked better afterwards - more defined and no frizz.

This worked great for me too with the Darcys peach kernal - that stuff smells lovely. It isn't too heavy either for my hair (3a fine). My 2nd day hair was so much less frizzy. I scrunched in the Darcys, left it for a bit, sprayed lightly with water then scrunched in some gel. Thanks FrizzBgone

Ok, I am very interested in this. Very very very.

Question for you - what kind of dews were you in at the time?

I can get fantastic 2nd day hair - no frizz, perfect curls - if I use KCKT/KCCC/BRHG on day one and then a satin cap overnight. My SDH is better than my first. BUT - if it's too dry or too wet outside, I can't use that combo. I haven't found a good solution for FDH, much less SDH in those conditions! But your combo sounds promising...

Sorry to sound ignorant, would like to work with next day hair as well, what's a pineapple? Do you mean you pull it up in a top knot while you sleep?

I always have to rewet and restyle my hair every day and I hate going to work with crunchy, wet curls around my face. I'd like to do my hair at night and then freshen the next day.

Any tips, thanks!

Thanks FBG! I have yet to accomplish good SDH. Yesterday I was running late with no time to do my usual co wash, etc. I remembered reading this thread. I hadn't even pineappled the night before, but scrunched and smoothed in some LI that I had on hand (Abba PG) and let it sit while I had a quick bath and applied makeup. Scrunched in a bit of water and it wasn't bad for SDH! A wee bit of frizz, but presentable enough to head to work. It lasted throughout the day as well. I am definitely going to try this with your exact method...*adds Darcy's Botanical to Honeyfig list* I'd love to see a hair pic!

I can't use the BRHG at all. It leaves my hair stringy looking. I had to use it one summer before I found my other natural products, but I hated my hair all summer. It was the only thing that allowed me to avoid frizz at the time, but the price was stringy stiff hair ... I hated my hair all the summer. All this to say ... our hair may be very different. I hope you find something that works for you now that the weather has changed - nothing worse than moody hair !!

I recently tried it with the Shescentit Coco-Creme leave-in. It worked just as well. I scrunched it in and left it for a few minutes. I then scrunched in some water and it really started to work. I used Oyin's Whipped Pudding once my hair was almost completely dry ... got lots of compliments. It still isn't as good as FDH, but it is definitely workable.

FrizzBgone, thank you, thank you, thank you for your post!

I've had luck getting your 2nd day hair technique to work for me, too, even though I didn't have the Oyin Whipped Pudding. (I ordered some from CurlMart on Black Friday and it finally arrived today, so I'll try that in the mix now, too.)

Up to now, I've had mixed results (but more misses than hits and nothing consistent) on 2nd day hair. I noticed that our hair seems to like similar things so I was intrigued with your suggestion.

I bought the Peach Kernel Hair Milk (wow - that smells devine and I've been using as a leave-in, too). I used it as you suggested, letting it sit before going on to the next step.

For me, one thing that made a difference to my 2nd day hair success was scrunching in just a teensy bit of water. For my shoulder length hair (and I have a lot of hair), I wet one hand, then rub my hands together and scunch my hair upside down being careful to get my fingers on my scalp, not just the ends. Usually, I do this just twice.

Since I didn't had any of the Whipped Pudding, I've been scrunching one of my favorite curl enhancers (Komaza Coconut Hair Pudding or DM MiraCurl) or CJ Aloe Fix Gel after this. There's just something about the texture of the CJ AFG that says "2nd day hair to me".

Sometimes I mix the CJ AFG with the Komaza Coconut Hair Pudding or the DM MiraCurl in my hand; sometimes I mix them in my hand with a litte AOMM.

Since I've been following your technique, I've been consistently getting decent-to-great 2nd day hair. Now I'm excited about trying it with the Whipped Pudding, too.

I am thrilled and so very grateful you made the time to post about your success. Thanks again.

I'm hoping others will try this method with some other curl cremes to try to figure out how much of the success is due to the method and how much to the specific ingredients the OP used. 2nd day hair has always eluded me and it would be great to achieve it!
