Yes, LALSG is CG, cheap, and available all over the place.

I really like it and it works very consistently for me. I have others that are in the rotation just because I bought them and now need to use them up, but even though I like some of them as well, I don't know that I'll repurchase the others since they're all more expensive and it's so dependable for me.

I've also tried their Durahold Gel, but I didn't like it as well.

I'm bumping this because I *so* want to love this technique. I've tried it for the last few mornings, but when I get to the halfway point and start scrunching in the KCCC, I start to get frizz. It's like the slight stickiness of the KCCC pulls out some hair from all the little clumps. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful! Thanks!

I've gotten to where I nearly always do this after first Super Soaking, though I seldom use KCCC any more - Most days I'm first using CJCCC Lite, diffusing a bit then scrunching in some Spiral Solutions Firm Hold Gel - works consistently for me, and I can usually go a couple of days longer between washings with this gel rather than LALSG or BRHG.

Well I can't wait to try this later (and i kept hoping people would b=mention if it worked well with LALSG) but it also he;lped because i also get that sticky feeling which causes a bit of frizz, because usually i diffuse until 70-80% dry, readd gell and air dry rest of the way. THis always seemed to work pretty well except for the stickiness, so i switched to HETT for the second part (i love the smell and it isn't sticky, it was just never enough on it's own) but it never had enough hold.

I'll tell ya all how it goes later, ihope it works, and gives me good enough for second day hair--school coming, and i don't know how i'll be curly this year with having to wash my hair everyday, especially when it's so unpredicatble!
I'm 15 now but I don't get on often so I may be 67 by the time you read this.
My name is Sarah.
I come on here when I want hair advice because if you type in "curly hair" anywhere, all you get is advice on how to curl it. I used to get on here a lot when I was like, 12 or 13 (and first figuring out how to stop straightening my hair without being bullied), so if you happen to see some older posts of mine, shh. No judging.
When this thread got bumped, I was shocked to see that I hadn't replied to it yet. I've been using this technique for months and love it. Here is what I do.
I scrunch in ecostyler into soaking wet hair and plop. Then I pixie curl diffuse my hair part way dry. I wet my hands and scrunch in some BRHG. Wetting my hands is key. If I don't wet my hands, I get frizz. Then I pixie diffuse some more. In the summer I air dry to finish. In the winter I used a different curl enhancer and diffuse until dry.
This method really increases curl/wave for me. I get lots of shrinkage (good thing for me). The other major benefit for me is that it decreases drying time. BRHG extends drying time for me. Adding the BRHG later in the process helps my hair dry more quickly, and I have to spend less time diffusing it.

Tried this last night...

Some background on diffusing for me:

I used to adore diffusing before I was CG. Then the damage started from a bad cut and the wrong products and diffusing became the devil. Made my hair flat and frizzy, always. So I've steered clear of it as CG for the past year or so too. I always air dry or scrunch dry with CLU Cloth. I have had a Vidal Sassoon dryer for years, I imagine I need a new one actually because I noticed it kind of smelled like a burning smell when I dried my hair (I know it wasn't my hair though because I sniffed the dryer itself and it just smelled like that lol). So anyway, I thought I'd give this method a go because my hair always gets fluffy and lacks curl pattern when I diffuse.

This is what I got:

(Notice my dog LOL)

I really enjoyed the volume I got from it. I didn't diffuse upside down the whole time, but did scrunch upside down.

I was surprised how easy it was to get to 50% dry. Like 3-4 minutes tops for me.

Scrunched quarter sized amount of Arc AnGEL then scrunched with Curl Cloth. Then I scrunched half way with another quarter sized Arc AnGEL. I got a little nervous about blow drying it again and ending up with frizz, so I gave it another scrunch with the curl cloth then gave it one last all around blast upside down to get underlayer. It was probably only 85% dry or so once I stopped diffusing. The curl was starting to look a little funny and I had surface frizz. But once it "rested" from the heat it dried quickly and the surface frizz was gone- from that second layer of gel maybe?

I'm definitely going to use this method in a bind. It usually takes my hair 30 minutes to airdry with a curl cloth but once I get this method down I think it'll take 15 minutes and that's with applying gel and all that. My ends do come out a little flat, but I think I need to use more gel. Also going to try wetting hands before applying gel second time.

As for second day hair- all systems go. It's not my usual curl, but I do like how fluffy and light my hair is. My Mom said it looks "softer" and "fluffy" (in a good way).

In a bind, this will be my go-to! Going to try with mousse and gel combos. Like starting with mousse and adding in gel half way. Think the other way around would just dry out my hair. Also want to try with HESMU Max hold and BRHG when I get some.

Thank you smasters467!

Kelly you and your hair are so adorable that it makes me ill lol! Freaking a-dorable! I also read somewhere (at some post in the last 6 months) that you were using bigsexyhair shampoo and condish -- do you still use it? Did you actually get a volume boost out of it?

I also decided to post on this thread to add my 2 thumbs up. I noticed that Peda was using it quite frequently down on the 2 boards. I had gotten mixed results from it, but decided to play with it again and I realized that the previous failures were from the product choice, not the technique. I do this method with almost ALL of my gels, but I prefer the more flexible gels. The ones that dry like rubber rather than hard plastic.

I have a really bizzare mix of techniques so I'll outline them really quick like -- I've been meaning to do this, because I know some peeps haven't had much luck with the roller jaw and I finally found the secret for me.

Also, I've found that little things like putting in my gel after I've blotted help with hold. Rather than do it while super wet. Its important to get that curl enhancer/Simple aloe jelly whatever in there while soaking wet for good clumps, but once the clumps are formed with something, I like to blot dry for better hold with my gel.

1. I do rudee's supersoaker with SS CEJ.
2. Scrunch excess water out with flour sack towel. Scrunch in gel of the week (currently brocato hold on)
3. Diffuse to about 50% dry.
4. Re-scrunch in some more Brocato (this is really runny almost like water). I really don't care if I get a few stray hairs, cause I really like the volume.
5. diffuse a little more. Just basically to "set" the curl pattern again.
6. Use roller jaw clamps like on CHS website (see the roller jaw clamp video). But I use less of them, I have a lot less hair! lol.
7. Let dry for as long of time as I have...
8. Take clamps out and then diffuse at roots to make sure they are dry. My hair would NEVER, ever dry if left in those clamps. So I just leave them in as long as I can and then diffuse to finish it off.

My routine sounds really bizarrely complicated, but I love it. My hair has volume for days. I have a friend who hasn't ever said much about my hair, but when I did this the first time, she was like, "How did you do that?" and I had to explain to her exactly how I did it. I have also been able to reproduce it every time, so it goes in the "tried and true" category.

So basically thanks Smasters! I've had time to experiement with my routine and I know at this point that all my steps are crucial or I don't get the "good hair" lol, so the "awesome hair technique" is a big part of it. I didn't read this whole thread, but basically I think this works so well because some of us need that extra hold, and this is a way to get that little bit of extra product in without causing a ton of frizz (instead of blotting it all out with a towel).

Yep, I used the Big Sexy hair for awhile. I was on a CG break then. I was using the shampoo/conditioner/mousse. I did notice a difference using the poo/conditioner. Honestly, my hair was in pretty great shape using the products. But I just didn't like the smell because it was really citrusy. I just swapped my shampoo on Makeup Alley. I have have 1/2 bottle left of the condish and like 40% left of the mousse if you wanted to do a swap for those. I *really* loved the mousse. It actually curled my hair. I had never used a mousse before that and I really liked it.

Your gel that you're using for this smasters technique sounds perfect, since it's runny! HESMU may be way too sticky, but I still want to try it. I also want to use a runny gel now. I should try it with Aveda confixor even though it's my Mom's and she's almost out

I havent seen this before.

Am curious: Does this increase volume? What are the benefits (curl def? curl retention? frizz reduction?)

Does anyone who already had as much curl and volume as they want use this technique?

I do it after I've first gotten the benefits of Super Soaking, partially for added volume and curl retention, but mostly because it helps my hair dry faster without adding any frizz, even with just a short diffusing time.

It holds for days for me after I Super Soak then Smasters. I just went one full week (a definite record!) with very little curl loss, albeit wearing it in an updo for the last three days. It just kept on looking good, smelling OK and not getting too itchy - every morning I got up intending to wash it, but it looked good enough that I thought "Why bother?!"

I haven't tried this method, but plan to do so tonight.

From what I can tell, this technique creates volume and curl retention, and I would like to think frizz reduction.

I'm so used to clumping that I don't even know what my hair will look like after trying this. But I may report back tomrrow with results.....
