Consistently awesome hair technique...

Like Tree8Likes

I haven't tried this in a while but I did it today with awesome results! The only problem is I can't tell how it would hold up in high dews because I stayed inside all day to avoid scorching NYC heat.

I'll see how it holds up for 2nd day hair and I plan to try it again. I remember it was great a long time ago and then for some reason I stopped doing it. Glad this thread reminded me!

I did a co-wash, using Mop Top LemonSage Daily Conditioner (highly recommend it) raked in small amount of KCKT, raked and scrunched in LA Sports Gel and then did the Smaster's technique with KCCC after hair was diffused about 80% dry. Very pretty curls and ringlets with nice volume! I didn't need any pomade or anything else. What a shame I had nowhere to go today.
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
Smasters, my friend, two questions
1) At one time in this thread, you said KCCC/gel needs to be applied to soaking wet hair, but then you said it works for you when you scrunch it and it's 50% dry, which I want to do so that I can put some oils in when it's wet. Also, you said you do put your gel in when your hair's been blotted and stuff, right, and that works fine? I don't like putting in gel when it's super wet, but many say that's the way to go.
2) When you say you scrunch the KCCC< you don't work it into the roots, crown, really youre just scrunching halfway up, nothing gets into the part close to roots, right that second time?? Sorry I'm so anal, but I'm struggling and want to get the technique perfected!

Hey Mamaherrera,
I'm happy to be more specific:
1. I never apply products to soaking wet hair anymore. When I get out of the shower I wrap my hair in a flour sack towel. After I'm done with the rest of my after shower routine, lotion, brushing my teeth, getting dressed, etc., I take my hair down and rake small amounts of gel through, and then I start scrunching. Once I've applied enough gel to be sure my hair is covered everywhere, I scrunch with my flour sack towel again. The I start diffusing. Once my hair is 50-80% dry, closer to 80% most of the time, I scrunch in about a quarter-sized amount of KCCC. And then I finish diffusing.
2. When I'm ready to apply the KCCC I emulsify it in my hands really well, then I flip my head upside down. I smooth it over my canopy and ends very gently, then I scrunch it all over. So yeah, some of it gets close to my roots and part, but not so much intentionally. Some of the ladies said it helps them to add a little water to their hands before this step, because they were getting frizz. I've tried it with and without water, and my hair doesn't seem to be picky either way.

I do really appreciate these specifics. And I will try maybe on damp. I've been doing soaking wet and maybe that's wehre I'm getting the frizz. who knows!! I need some staying power and maybe a gel with 1 water-soluble cone. If you know of any good ones with good hold, let me know. My hair is very porous and coarse, and frizzes all over!

I'm glad someone tried this on air dried hair. I never diffuse...

I'm going to try this tomorrow since it will probably be a snow day and if it doesn't work, oh well .

Thanks for sharing Smasters. Appreciate it
Mmm i just tried air drying to 50% & then applying more gel. I do seem to get slightly better results.

But my 2nd/3rd day hair is just the same - can't leave the house looking like that!

I wish I could get consistent results every time!
I'm still doing this if I'm still in the house & have time when my hair is half dry except I SOTC with jojoba oil afterwards
I just bought KCCC for the first time...but have to wait until it arrives. I will, however try this technique with other products/gels to see how it works with them. Thanks for sharing. I am up for anything that helps increase my curl and for better hold. Is the crunch in the KCCC easily scrunched out? How much KCCC do you ladies typically use (my hair is above shoulder length/ fine with lots of it)

Did not work for me. I had to re-wash my hair, I got curls, but major frizz and fuzz. Maybe because I use mousse...
This technique worked great for my hair today!

It works better for me when I dry my hair with a blow dryer ... As opposed to air dryin my hair.
Just recv'd my first order in the mail today - yippe. I wasn't sure whether to use it as a base/ or on top...so I think I'll try this tomorrow morning (which is Christmas Eve...do I dare experiment when I really want my hair to look awesome???) Thanks for the tips. I have used product after my hair is partially diffused, but so far it's only been CIAB, which is more liquid and easy to distribute. This should be interesting. Glad to see so many good results with this approach.

NoCurl - did you ever try this out?

I've learned a lot about my hair since last July when I first posted in this thread. Will be trying this again tomorrow. Someone on the 2 board mentioned she does a version of this with SCC spray gel... maybe not enough hold? but I think I'll try that out first since it's a no touch application and anytime my hands, wet or dry, come within 5 feet of my hair, I frizz.
fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

Co-wash: VO5 Volumizing
Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
LI: KCKT
PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
Gels: SCC spray gel

I tried this technique this morning and had great results. I had out away my KCCC and had been using other things, but this is perfect! I was always afraid to use it on anything but soaking wet hair.
I used Devacurl Frizz Free Volumizing Foam, then diffused, added in the KCCC, and my hair is bouncy and full. Really shiny. Maybe has a little more product feel than I typically like, but after 6 hours, it looks like it did when I first styled it. Normally, it's in a pony by now because its just gotten tangly or limp or blah. Thanks!

Leave Ins- Kinky Curly Knot Today
Stylers- KCCC, AG Recoil, KY Lubricant (yup), SM Curl Milk
Gels- Ecostyler, Biosilk RHG
Mousse- Devacurl Uplifting Foam, Suave Captivating Curls
I tried this today, and had no idea I had this much curl! I didn't know my hair could do this...yippee!

If anyone comes across this thread, and has any doubt about whether or not you have the experience to try this, don't hesitate. I have no idea what I'm doing, and just got great results on my first attempt.

I used Tresseme Naturals as a co-wash and conditioner, as well as a little bit of Knot Today for some slip. A bit more Knot Today on the ends as a leave in, and one pump of AC's Recoil, then some ECO Styler Krystal Gel until I got the squish. After the 50 (ish) % dry mark, I added the KCCC, and continued until nearly dry. When I put my head up, I couldn't believe it was my hair!

Thank you smasters467!!

I read this whole thread last night and tried this today. I raked in a good amount of LALooks sport gel (it's blue) pretty quickly after stepping out of the shower. I scrunched with my hands and then scrunched out a bit of water with a flour sack towel. Diffused a few minutes; aiming for 50% dry. Then I scrunched in kccc. (I had not had any luck with it before. I didn't have a dryer till recently and the kccc took forever to air dry and seemed to either do nothing or leave sticky places in my hair or both.) I diffused a bit more upside down, put in some clips and diffused till it was pretty well dry. I didn't have any place to go so I left it crunchy and clipped for 3 more hours.
It was very crunchy. In fact the crunch would not scrunch out. Usually I use a little something on my hands to SOTC and it will still take a while to get 'softer' the way I like it, but this crunch was serious. It looked very curly, but it was stiff and product-y.
As luck would have it, errand running this afternoon included a stop at Target and I picked up Jane Carter's Nourish and Shine. I used it to SOTC in the car. I have still got some serious hold, but it feels and looks so much better.
I have never tried to rake my gel thru; I thought it would straighten my hair or cause stringy curls. I raked it in then kind of squeezed it and since my hair was wet enough it worked. I was afraid that scrunching in the kccc after my hair was half dry would destroy the curls and I would have strings, but I needn't have worried!
This method is a winner for me and I found a new fav SOTC product. What fun!
Has anyone tried this method without KCCC? I dont have it, and I dont particularily want to buy another product right now...I have CK LALSG and As I am Jelly - thoughts, anyone??
