Curl Chemist Article:Temps matter too along with Dew Points!!!!

Like Tree4Likes

I've tried CK several times. It just left my hair stringy each time. Soft, not greasy, but I couldn't get any decent clumps. I wasn't really frizzy this summer, so maybe I should pull it out again and dry. Maybe I should try it again now? Maybe I'll notice less frizz this time around.

I started a spreadsheet -- I'm just so lazy I don't actually use it. I wish I would though!

Angela -- I'm glad you're not letting my ramblings make you neurotic! Frizz is so right when she says that if you keep trying stuff you'll eventually find a combo that works for you. I think that experiementing is the best!

I have to say the spreadsheet idea seemed awfully neurotic to me. But, this Fall I succumed because I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. I actually just use a little notebook. When I saw a pattern with temps & dew points it solidifed what we had talked about on LCLF forum.

goober-I read one of your posts that you ordered CK. How in the world you have gone this long without trying it is beyond me! I was going to suggest that to you but I thought you already tried it!! CK is my saviour in Summer along with Honey of course I guess maybe foregoing the LI in Summer and going lighter on my Condish might be compensated with the amt. of humectants I'm using between Honey & CK but it works for me!

I think temp is definitely important and not just dew points. I'm in VA and we've had 30's, and mid 40's with dews around 40. You figure in the central heating sucking out the moisture from the indoor air and it's a recipe for dryness.

I realize there are some curlies who can still do well with humectants in this kind of weather, but I am not one of them. Again, everyone's hair is different and responds differently to different products and atmospheric conditions. I can only relate my experiences.

I removed my hair properties from my sig, but I am fine-haired, low porosity, and medium density. I think that I may have to redo my signature.
I said this last year when the whole dew thing became the rage, but nobody wanted to hear it. Its dews and temps, dews and temps. Thats why you can go out in the winter rain and retain your hair, but Fall or Spring rain is not the same regardless of the dews being the same. Which kinda starts bringing you full circle to relative humidity....

I'm tired.

I don't understand dew points at all, but I just wanted to say that our dew points in my hometown were -24.

You don't need hard hold gel, you just go outside, let your hair freeze and you're set for the rest of the day

It doesn't mean you gotta get all PJ and get 50 different products to accommodate every single temp & dew point!! A lot of our hair products do work well in various seasons.

Hey maybe someone ought to start a thread on that. All weather products do they exist??? goober?
No, this is a good thread. Del I think we (East Coasters) are really feeling it more so this Fall 'cause of the unseasonable/changeable weather.

Humidity is relative! I'm sure I can find a post where I've said that.

Humidity in my town rarely dips below 50%. I don't change my routine an awful lot month to month. And use CK yearround because when the humidity is high 80+ my hair frizzes regardless of the temperature.

For me, temps are not really relevant. I go by dew points only . I posted a thread some time ago in warm weather showing two different dew points, one lower and one higher, and you could tell which pic was which.

A 40 degree dewpoint at 40 degrees looks the same on me as a 40 degree dewpoint on a 90 degree day.

Relative humidity is even more pointless for me. It's pretty useless and I don't look at it for hair product stuff. It was 80% humidity today but so what, it was a cool dry day and I went by the dewpoint. In the summer, a 40% humidity day may still give my hair some grief if the dewpoint is high enough, so, for me, RH is useless.

I sure would love to see Jillipoo do a roundtable discussion on this

We have the curl chemist's viewpoint on Temps being important as well as dew points. It would be interesting to see other chemists, product developers and stylists input too. Tonya has said that some people do defy Science so it is possible!! I certainly know for me I have to look at both when we are in a wonky NE weather pattern.
Are you telling me I'm a freak of nature???

YES you are WHC

RCC something else comes to mind with you and why you may not feel the difference so much. You're able to use the same product combo no matter what the Season! So you won't notice the humectant sensitivities in our stylers that a lot of us go through. If I could get KCCC to work for me year round I wouldn't care! But with higher dews KCCC is not my friend, in fact I'm real close to giving KCCC the Boot since it only works for me in low dew points!
