overnight plopping

I have been taking my showers in the morning and plopping afterwards..this takes so much time though.

So last night I decided I would shower and plop overnight. Worst decision ever. I had a horrible headache from the t shirt being tightly wrapped. I went to bed about an hour or so later and the darn thing was falling off (I had to loosen it b/c my head hurt so bad) and so I just gave up and took it off. There was no way I could sleep on my back, or sides b/c it was so uncomfortable.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Did I do something wrong? Plopping really seems to help my hair but last night was a different story. Is there something easier I can plop with overnight?
This isn't a suggestion for overnight plopping (never could get the hang of it personally), but last night I tried something else to get good curls in the morning. I showered, applied my products, then used more gel than I normally would. I waited until my hair was totally dry, hard, and crunchy before going to bed. I sleep on a satin pillowcase for what it's worth (I have noticed a difference in morning frizz with one). So I slept on my hard hair all night and the pillow and my tossing and turning essentially scrunched out the crunch for me. This morning I have really nice frizz free curls that I'm going to wear down today. The volume is a bit of a bummer (I love volume and this method reduced it for me), but since the curls are nice and I got to sleep in I don't mind. Hope that helps if you can't do overnight plopping.

I, too, never got the hang of the overnight plop. For two reason, I toss too much and it wouldn`t stay but more importantly, if I leave my in a plop more than about 10 min, I great really wonky curls and mucho frizz.

I can't do overnight plopping.

In warm weather my hair does fine with air drying but for cold days ...I cleanse my hair in the early evening and let air dry - sometimes I diffuse it till nearly dry if its still wet by bedtime.

In the morning I mist my hair to damp, add product and plop (with a micro turban) while I get dressed and put my makeup on. I then unwrap and fix to go. If my hair is still wet before I leave - I will diffusse (with my pancake diffuser) a few seconds before walking out.

Plopping is not for everyone some love it and others hate it.
I haven't been able to get results from over night plopping either. I use the same technique as Laura Lee when I want 2nd day hair. At night I mist my hair with water all over and add extra fsg and another gel over top of that until its crunchy with extra product. then when its dry I pineapple go to bed and wake up with my curls still intact...... but for some reason it works better some days than others. I'm still experimenting with it.

Thanks for all the replies! My hair turned out horrible this morning. I have bangs in the front and they were all over the place..I could barely put it back because it was such a mess. I think I will experiment with Laura Lee's advice, and if that doesn't work I will have to suck it up and do hair in the morning.
I usually have good results pineappling, too - I put it up without SOTC, usually completely dry, but sometimes still a little damp. It stays nice and curly but has more volume than just doing as Laura Lee described.

When I do do that, I throw my hair out over the back of the pillow so I'm not wallowing on it all night (hopefully).

I don't do well with long plops, whether overnight or not. I seldom bother at all any more. When I do, it's never for more than 15-20 minutes.

I should try pineappling with dry crunchy hair and see if that helps with volume (can't imagine it wouldn't). My hair hasn't been long enough to pineapple in a while, so honestly the thought never even occurred to me

I've only done an overnight plop a couple of times and had some success. The plop stayed in and my hair was still damp in the morning, so I could diffuse a bit and let air dry. It does take a bit of getting used to sleeping with it, though. I usually pineapple and plop into a satin cap most nights anyways, so the overnight plop wasn't too different. It certainly is worth a try, though. You never know if it might work!

I just wanted to add that I tried the same technique today when my hair was frizzing and I didn't want to have to wash it all over again for a second time that day. I just re-wet my hair, coated it with FSG until it was squishy. after a run on my treadmill it was almost dry and very crunchy so I used my diffuser for a few min then put it up in a pineapple for and hour or so. It came out tons better than it was after I SOTC.

I tried doing my hair and night, pinappling and then fixing it in the morning. It was a disaster. I think I put way too much product in.
overnight plopping works great for me, as long as i put in lots of conditioner
I LOVE plopping overnight! I can't wash in the mornings (no time, and mom doesn't like me going out w/ wet hair), so it's perfect. It gets kinda uncomfortable, but it's worth the volume and prettiness. If my top is a little flat, I pinapple for a few min. to get volume, and I'm good. Normally, I put some more gel in, cause it's still very damp, and clip up the front. Yeah, it gets a little messy, and my bangs sometimes don't get pretty ringlets, (side bangs) but the fron always looks ok.
what do you all use to plop with overnight? Once I grow my bangs out I will try it again, but they are too short now. It looks funny if I plop too long.
I have had some success with the overnight plop. I don't do it a lot right now due to some product experimenting but when I do I use a flour sack towel and then put my micorfiber turban over it. It makes the plop easier to sleep on. Also I tend to lean towards heavier product use. My hair is still wet in the morning and I diffuse to pump up volume.

I can't get a towel to stay on my head for a long time even in an upright position...
So usually I take -how do you call it?- tights/a pantyhose instead and it stays on overnight regardless of me tossing and turning.
But I stopped doing this because if I plop too long, my curls get an unnatural pattern and the top of the head is looking weird, hair pointing into strange directions.
Now I also pineapple instead.
I just use a t-shirt.

I don't bother with my hair at night after my shower, I just twist it up into a bun and keep it in place with a scrunchee. Then in the morning I step into the bathtub, stick my head under the faucet with cold running water and get it soaking wet again. Then I put in my LI and FSG while still upside down, plop while I wash my face and drink my coffee( although the cold water wakes me up more than the coffee could!). I diffuse till almost completely dry upside down. I use another scrunchee to put my hair up into a pineapple/ponytail while I put my makeup on, get dressed and leave it in till I get to work. By then it's completely dry and I have great root volume cause of all the time spent upside down and up in the pineapple.
