I call that "first time fabulous!" It happens to many of us. It's one of the reasons I rotate products so much. I seldom use any one product more then twice a week. If I use FSG more then once every 5 days, it doesn't work well. My hair likes me to keep it guessing. It's always been that way--acclimates to products. Did it in my shampoo/conditioner days, too. I always had to switch up my products every week or two. (that was when I shampoo/conditioner every day)

When you rotate products, how do you decide what to use each day? Based on weather? How your hair feels? Just simple rotation?
Yes.

I think that's part of the fun--deciding what I'm going to use each day. Season, weather, etc., play a major part in the decision making process. I usually have about 20-25 products in the rotation, LOL!

I always feel like this is down to weather and exact amounts used - even if everything else is identical. Some people's hair do satiate on products, as kathymack says, but I often persevere with a combo that worked once well (it did it once, it can do it again, I just need to figure out how). Turns out, more often than not, it's a variable outside of my control that fixes things or messes things up. Since the weather only seems to have two settings here (cold and windy but humid and mid-hot and humid), I have two different product combinations (roughly - I have a good winter one, but I know I'll need to pick at my spring/summer one soon).

I also always wonder if sometimes the 'first time fabulous' thing has to do with hair not knowing what to do with itself when you throw an unusual product/ product combo at it - and therefore it behaves. The second time around, your hair thinks - ah ha, I know this one ~FRIZZ!~. Perhaps too much anthropomorphism there, but there you have it.

The weird thing about me is that when I find a product that works -- it works. I mean, every time. But that can be a bad thing, because then I get scared to change up my products for fear that I won't find something else that will make my hair as fabulous. I guess it's not such a bad thing now that I'm CG, but when I used Tresemme mousse I literally used it for 4 years and got the same exact result every single time. WEIRD! (even my hairdresser was befuddled)
