I just don't get it apparently!

Well apparently everything I thought I knew about my hair is out the window!

I *thought* my hair was seriously protein sensitive after my debacle with the GVP Kpak around Christmas. I have been lightly trying protein here and there and I've been okay. I even used Emergencee last week with great success. I was totally avoiding the Curl Fix. Then this evil PJ monster that lives on my shoulder told me to try it today on second day hair as a refresher.....woohoo for bouncy volume and no straw hair!! Do I dare try it as LI?

Where oh where is that tag that was supposed to come with my hair to tell me all my hair characteristics in plain language? I am so confused!

I take what I think is two steps forward with my hair in trying to figure out what's up and then that "theory" gets blown out of the water. I seriously wish there was a service where I could snag 5 hairs out of my head and send them off to have someone clarify my hair characteristics for me! Every hair stylist I have seen has delivered different answeres on texture. Am I the only one?

On the plus side - I got some decent second day hair from taking the risk.

Just a thought - maybe it was the mineral oil in the GVP kpak that made your hair go woogy? Or your hair is moody and only wants protein in certain seasons or after a set period since your last protein product. ;P There's probably an absurdly complex mathematical formula. Too bad no one's discovered it yet!

*lol* I want that tag too! Hair should come New With Tags.

I was going to suggest the mineral oil, too. All it takes is one use and a minute amount of product, for me. My first mineral oil debacle was with a CHS li. A nice curly added it to a swap box--boy was I sorry. It makes my hair dry, coated and frizzy.

Looking back it makes sense because even when I was throwing moisture (CJCR) at my hair for the few days following it was still massively frizzy. A round with a low-poo seemed to put me back on the right path.

I am going to figure this whole thing out eventually!

All I know is if someone came up with a formula, like a lab where you could send your hair samples and get a prescription for EXACTLY what products to use, they would make a fortune!!!!!
I think it takes a little while to get it. But once you get it, you GET IT! I know it can be frustrating to begin with, but half the fun is deciding which product combos to use and seeing the results. A "prescription" would take a lot of the fun out of it.

Unfortunately, I'm not having fun with my hair. I have a ridiculous amount of hair and straight ends that I was told by Carlos at Mario Diab will have to grow out another 6-8 months. My hair is such a PITA because of the volume that there is no way I can play around with it every day. It takes forever to wet, condition, apply product and dry. As a mom of young kids and a college student, it really is frustrating not being able to get my hair look decent without so much work. If it looked good after everything that I do, it would be okay but for the amount of work I put into this mop I would hope that it would at least look nice and it just doesn't right now. Whew...sorry...I'm a little frustrated these days LOL

curlyqmom,

I'm glad KM lead you on the right track and you now know that the MO was the culprit. Also, since your hair has high porosity, this indicates you should do well with protein. Since a lot of the protein treatments on the market have nasty un CG ingredients hidden in them here and there, if you need a protein treatment that is totally CG, try Spiral Solutions protein repair. I haven't used it because I truly am intolerant of Proteins, but many curlies who love protein rave about it. I hear that it's pretty strong so you would only need a little of it when you need a PT.

I also wish hair would give off an alarm bell or something, so that we know when it's in balance. I was doing dt's with heat 2 and 3 times a week for 8 months! Nothing seemed to help then out of desperation did an aphogee 2 step. Who knew a coarse needed protein! I didn't. It was great for about a week, now I'm left wondering which way did the scale roll, more moisture or more protein. I hope when I grow up I can be like KathyMack!!!

If I used protein any more often my coarse hairs would rebel and make even the pretty curls that need protein suffer There is a constant war going on on my head every day. It took a long time, but I finally found a routine that what works. So don't give up!

What I wish is to have lovely curls like KathyMack!

That's so nice. Would you believe, I never used a styling product until 8/08?? I started with gel. Found this website and have to say that I am a fast learner, LOL! When I get into things, I get into things.

I will adopt you all. Have to say that I do feel like I'm everyone's mother on here--couldn't ask for a lovelier group of kids!

curlyq - so glad you figured that out. Had I noticed your hair properties and protein sensitivity, I would have wondered why you had a problem but wouldn't have questioned it. Every head of hair is different - even when they share characteristics. I think that Curl Fix is a far superior product in general to the KPak. I didn't react to the MO in it but I also didn't have the love I have for CF.

As for the Curl Fix, I am quickly finding that all of Marsha's products truly are superior. I am going to brave it and try the Curl Fix as a leave in tomorrow and see how things go.
