Glasses (semi-hair related ;) ) Update :)

So I'm hoping to be able to buy a pair of glasses one day in the near future and I found a site where you can get a complete pair for about 55 dollars. The only problem is that they're selection of frames is really slim pickins'! They send you the frames to try for free and you just send them back a couple of days later. I've tried about 12 different pairs, and I realize with their selection I'm never going to find anything perfect, but I need a back-up pair because I'm wearing out my eyes and contacts by keeping them in my eyes for about 15 hours a day or so.

I've narrowed it down to about 2 that I can imagine myself wearing. One I really like but is a bit 'crazy' (as my SO says ), but I love the color. I just don't want to look ridiculous (I'd rather have an olive green). The other is 'safer' but a bit boring, yet might look better on me. I wouldn't be wearing them in public that much anyway because I prefer my contacts.

Anyway, I've linked a couple of pics so you can tell me which looks better, if either one. :P Keep in mind I was going on 5th day hair here and it was after the gym, so lots of frizz. (see IWCH, there's LOTS of halo frizz!)
Oh, and btw, the green ones are not measured to fit my face, but if I end up ordering them, they would be measured to fit better. It will be a while before I order anyway, but I'm trying to decide already. ;)

I like #1 with the darker frames. I love my new funkier frames - even though I dont wear them alot (like you I wear contacts) but when I do wear them I feel fashionable and I get lots of comments.

The Scientist 10-11-2006 04:13 PM

This is tough. I really like the eccentricity of the first pair, but they might be a bit much. It might be safer to get the other ones. I know that doesn't help much. I do think the second pair seem to fit better, but the first pair will probably fit better when they adjust it to your face and they definitely have more personality.

Good luck with making the decision! I hope the other ladies are of more help!

lushaholic 10-11-2006 04:16 PM

It's funny because just looking at those pics I know I look sooo much better with contacts instead of glasses. I do wish the first ones were a bit smaller in the total frame space.

Again, don't be afraid to say 'neither'. Maybe I should have made this a poll. :?

medusahair 10-11-2006 04:21 PM

Well the first ones are fun and funky but a bit wide. The second ones make your face look slimmer , or maybe streamline is more the word. The second ones don't draw the eyes out.

I wanted funky glasses when I got them but my S.O. picked the ones I got. I really only need reading glasses so next time I'm going as funky as they get.

If you mostly wear them at home go with what makes you feel good

frizzbomb 10-11-2006 04:22 PM

I just bought new glasses myself and I usually wear my contacts too. Choosing frames is very hard!

I think the idea of the first pair is better but that they're a little too large for you. I think a bold frame suits your face.

hope this helps.

Eilonwy 10-11-2006 04:29 PM

To be honest, I don't like either pair. I'm not opposed to crazy glasses. In high school, I wore transluscent red cat's-eye glasses with crystals...just because I knew I could never get away with such weird classes after I graduated. That said...

Since you're probably going to have your frames for a few years, I'm gonna be honest. Of the two, I think that the green ones are worse. They're very angular and broad and a little too big, so they change the proportions of your face in a bad way (at least, that's what I think). They also make your eyes seem too close together. (They aren't *really* too close together, but the nosepiece of those glasses is too big.) At the same time, I don't think think the second pair is bold enough, which paradoxically makes them stand out too much for me. I guess they look out of place somehow. Anyway, the pictures are kind of small, so maybe I'm not getting the right impression.

You have *beautiful* eyes (romantic, eh?). You definitely want your glasses to draw attention to them without overpowering them. That doesn't have to rule out strong shapes and colors, though.

I always hate having to find new frames. It's soooo hard to find a good pair. Good luck!

lushaholic 10-11-2006 04:36 PM

Good, I appreciate honest answers! :D I'd love to wait even longer and get a pair that I really love, but that could be a really long time, probably next year. I guess at glasses that price, you can't be too choosy. I should probably take pics wearing them with how I normally wear my hair, since I don't usually wear braids more than once every couple of weeks. Maybe that would give a better idea.

Ok, off to bed with me!

btw, here's what the glasses are supposed to look like. I realize I don't have her great bone structure though. 8)

I do like the funkiness of the first ones! Can I ask what website you're ordering from?? I really want new frames but I can't afford to pay the full price!

medusahair 10-11-2006 04:56 PM

lush your bone structure is fine your face just isn't as wide as hers and she's at an angle in that pic.

For 55 dollars you can't go wrong with either of them. I just happen to like narrow frames to draw the eyes in.
Man my father used to get just what his ins paid for and they were always thick black frames. YOu know though I grew up actually liking them. It's a sad sick thing. Thick plastic black frames, I love them! Just not on me, funky narrow black frames or hot pink now that I would wear.

I have some a bit like the second pair so my opinion might be a little swayed by that

Iwantcurlyhair 10-11-2006 04:59 PM

I can't decide! I typically love the look of the first glasses, but I'm not so sure about wearing them all the time. I guess it depends on where you will mostly be wearing them. Will you mainly be wearing them at work or for leisure purposes? I'm thinking that the second pair looks more professional on you. But that's JMO. Btw, you must be joking..you call that frizz??!! If you're trying to convince me that I don't want your hair, you're doing a very bad job at it. 5th day hair?? I can't even grasp the concept of that :P

Just what I was going to post when I saw that pic.

Ab-star 10-11-2006 06:10 PM

Hmmm...that first pair is a little too much...the second pair is not quite enough. Can we see more please? ;)

(And maybe a headband pic when you get around to it...)

lushaholic 10-12-2006 05:12 AM

I'm so upset, I can't even begin to describe how upset I am. :x I just got my much needed contacts in the mail, super quick I might add, and was so excited because I was wearing my very last contact and it's starting to feel irritate my eye. So I rip open the box and stick one in. I can't see a freaking thing. Not a thing!!! It was worse than my usual almost non-existant vision. I tried it in my other eye, same thing. I decided to try another contact - same thing. :( So then I check the box and it's exactly the Rx it's supposed to be, then I check my prescription and I've been a complete idiot and ordered +5.75 instead of -5.75 . I can't believe I did that, not only because it was such an idiotic mistake, but because I just wasted all that money that I can't afford to even spend in the first place. I was having a good day until now, now I'm just depressed at the loss of money and contacts. *sigh*

Thanks to everyone who responded about the glasses, I think I will wait until a few months from now when I can afford to splurge on a better pair that I really like.

eta: I've been ordering contacts online for years and have never ordered the wrong Rx.

Kaia 10-12-2006 05:22 AM

(((((HUGS))))))

That sounds like the sort of thing I'd do.

SmallFry 10-12-2006 08:52 AM

Sorry I'm kinda late responding but I voted for the wire/frameless ones. I think they suit you nicely. Personally I think the green ones seem a bit strong... or maybe that particular pair seems wider than it should be.

I too, am a "usual contact lens wearer" and I am on the search to find a new pair of glasses... Which is hard because I am so picky and I think most frames look horrid on me! Anyway, I feel your frustrations! and Sorry about the Rx mix up! I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to me sometime soon too!!! Its funny because I am on my last pair also!!! So that reminds me--I better go get more.

DominicanaHeat 10-12-2006 09:20 AM

Hey I have the same frames in the first picture, but just a lighter shade of green (aqua). I barely wear them though, because they only look good when I wear a top that color and my hair down, because they ARE pretty wide and when I have my hair back, they look HUGE LOL. With my hair down, it camoflauges a bit of the width, like the model shot. And not only that, but I only have two tops that color. :? I should have bought them in red instead if I knew it was going to be a hassle. But I love their funky, original look!

I also like the frameless ones, because they are simple and go with everything, from a suit to sweats.

medusahair 10-12-2006 09:42 AM

((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))) poor Lush, I do stuff like that sometimes. I hoe you're in normal sight real soon hon

LavenderCurls 10-12-2006 10:10 AM

Aw, hugs to you Lushy .. that sucks about ordering the wrong lenses. Back when I wore contacts, I would have been blind without them and wearing glasses - well, I'd rather live in a cave until the lenses came in than wear them   .

I ended up with cataracts at the almost unheard of age of 35 and now have man-made implants, but I have 20/20 vision. I do need bifocals to read some stuff and glasses for distance (it's a weird thing having 20/20 but needing glasses!). I have wire rims and I think you look much better with the wire ones :) .

Now, if I were your age, I'd probably have picked the first ones, only in ... oh, I don't know ... purple  !

Oh jeesh I just saw this! There's no return or exchange policy there? I mean, it was a mistake that anyone can easily make, they should be able to work something out with you, I hope. :( And all you wear at this point are contacts right?
