I've been lurking rather than posting as of late, so hello again

I've been trimming my own hair for the past year or so, since I am very short on cash and afraid of cheap haircuts, and I've actually had great results. I use the ponytail method (described here: http://www.long-healthy-hair-advisor...-own-hair.html ) and then cut a couple layers around my face. I don't know if this would work for tighter curl types, but it works really well for trims for loose curls like mine - gives them some shape and texture. Plus, it's free

The only thing is that my hair has looked pretty much the same for awhile now because this is the only way I know how to do it. My question is - are there other easy DIY haircut methods out there?
