Any other fine, porous curlies that are protein sensitive?

From all the reading/researching I've done, it seems like fine, porous hair should love/need protein. It makes sense that porous hair would need more protein to fill up the gaps in the cuticle. But my fine, porous hair pretty much hates protein. I can very occasionally take a small amount of protein (once or twice a month) and only keratin protein but more frequent protein use makes my hair hard, dry and frizzy.

When I first started going curly years ago, my hair could tolerate tons of protein. In fact, my stylers had hydrolyzed wheat protein and I was able to use them everyday. Now that would fry my hair after 1 use.

I wonder why this is. Anybody else in the same boat?

My hair is on the fine side of normal and I can't tolerate too much protein either. I use AOGPB once a week or so, just as a normal rinse out co not a PT and that's enough. I used to avoid protein like the plague (after a disastrous PT) but have found I can use products with it so long as it's not too much. I haven't got the patience to figure out if it's certain proteins that cause me a problem or all of them!

I am fine and porous too, and I also use the AOGPB on occasion. I haven't figured out the whole protein thing either, but my hair does -- generally -- seem to like it. My hair hated the GDLI which is protein heavy, but it may have been the type of protein or some other ingredient in there, or the fact that it's left in as opposed to rinsed out...

When I first came on nc.com, I read about the GVP K-pak Reconstructor at Sally's, ran out and bought it, and had great results. Now when I use it, not so much. (My hair doesn't hate it and get strawlike or anything; it just yawns.) So this brings me to your hair...

Is your hair in better shape now than when you first went curly? I have read on here that when people first start CG or even non-CG but are taking better care of their hair, they use tons of protein, do PTs, and their hair just eats it up. Once it's healthy, they don't need the protein as much. Maybe this is all it is?
Dry climate
2C/3A, fine texture, high porosity, medium-low density

For me, desert climate+porous hair+CG=inconsistent results!

Conditioner washing leaves "something" behind it doesn't strip or rinse as clean as Shampoo. So it makes sense that it would cause more ingredient sensitivities.
