I'm letting my hair gray naturally. I have no artificial color. The hardest thing for me right now since I'm not very gray (I'm about 30%) is that my hairdresser isn't very supportive. She's about my age and colors her hair. She doesn't come right out and say I should color it, but she says things like "If you're ever ready for a change, I'm here for you." I keep saying I prefer to be low-maintenance (heck, I'm a levis-and-tees, yoga-loving gardener!) and I just want my hair to do its own thing. I love the look of wild natural gray/silver curls - but getting to that point can be a lesson in patience.... Have any of you found a supportive hair dresser? How?

Thanks Maudie.
Hey, as I keep saying on here, people should do what makes them happy. If they want to dye their hair they should, if they want to go natural they should. And they shouldn't care about what others think or say.
My family never liked my curly hair (too messy, too sexy, too much). They also don't like my grey hair (it makes them all feel old). They also don't like my sister's hair that she dyes a different color every couple months (right now it's red with black streaks and is very cool). Tough bananas. That's their problem not mine or my sisters.

ETA - hairdresser story. I was at a bachelorette party Saturday night. Approx 25 girls, almost all 10 - 30 years younger than me. All flat ironed. All dyed/highlighted. The crowd included 3 hairdressers who work on almost everyone there. So there was lots of talk of hair. And there I sat, the only one there with natural hair. No, I didn't have much to add to the conversation. But you'll have days like that. : )

Back at you -- I would not be white/silver today if I hadn't seen how good it looked on you. I also remember seeing some of your Fotki early transition photos and thinking, "hmm that's not so bad." It really helped me get through it.

My hairstylist keeps telling me he can do something about my gray. I just smile and ignore him.

He's been telling me that for the last eight years. It's now become a running gag.

The trouble is, its the hairstylist's bread and butter.
If they can hook you on color, you are a cash cow.
The same with the older ladies who go in for the weekly
shampoo and set.
Nothing against it, if its what the customer wants, but
business is business.
