How about asking women who have been through a transition? Like, if you see a gray/white-haired lady whose hair you like, offer her a compliment and ask how she managed the transition. Some will tell you they went cold turkey, but sooner or later you're bound to come across someone who did the gradual highlighting process you're thinking of, and then you can get the name of her colorist. Just an idea.

I'm contemplating this too. I'm going to try semis in my natural colour to start with, and then I might try low lights in shades near my natural colour going forward. I think a lot depends on how much grey you have.

i was very lucky in that my usual colorist, a young girl, was very helpful. she (as well as goinggraylookingreat) suggested headbands =-- they were a life saver, got me thru transition. she also said i could do lowlights, but i decided to go cold turkey and just be done with it. i felt the lowlights would get too much, they would fade, then later applications would not match up.....

LOL, my post! in the end, I discovered there is really no way to do it gracefully if you are brunette - there may be if you are blonde or light brown. I know headbands are an option for some - I dont like headbands for me, I would rather find some other way of pulling my hair off my face, or, perhaps in the warmer weather, wear it up. Some people use gray extensions - but I have not found them and they are expensive.
