One Year Twist and Braid Challenge

@onyx: your hair looks lovely!

Hey All! I decided I would post a couple pics a bit early. Tomorrow is the official start date, but I've pretty much been wearing my hair like this anyway, so I took a couple pictures.

Here's a pic of my twists pinned up with small bobby pins:

And here's the same style with mini-claws:

My hair is still growing out from my last buzz cut last June, but it's at least long enough now so that I can pin it up. I'd say the very back is about 5" and the front is more like 10.5 to 11", the sides are maybe 7.5". I'm looking forward to this challenge, because I know keeping it tucked away is really going to help with growth.

@ curlywurlygurly - thanks for the link.

Hey Everybody!! Thanks so much for the kind words - I really appreciate it!!

Yep, this will pretty much be my style of choice until my hair gets a bit longer, and I can play with it more. But as I mentioned before, I'm also thinking about the yarn braids too, so we'll see.

according to growafrohairlong.com yes - if you wear them for 2month apparently the weight on your scalp makes it grow more? - how true it is i'm not sure.

I agree with this. I'm hopeless at keeping my hair out of my hair when it's down.

I know the challenge just started but tomorrow is Easter and I'm gonna wear a flat twist out. I just learned to do flat twists yesterday so I'm too excited to let this opportunity pass without trying that style. Hope you all are doing well and going strong!

I had been sick all last week. I finished my kinky twists (took me about 8 hours total--I was getting sick when I started so that slowed me way down)

OMG coilynapp! Your twists look gorgeous! Your hair blends in perfectly and you can't even tell they're extensions. So jealous. Need to go work on my kinky twisting skills...

Your twists look great too!!! (and you are VERY pretty and I love your fro!) What kind of hair do you use?

The trick to getting your hair to blend well is to kind of hide it in the synthetic hair as well as smooth the hair as you twist.
very pretty coilynapp and xtremelyperfect .
bekkapoo - I too have been slack. After a failed attempt at yarn braids (they don't make a colour that goes with my hair - looked silly!) I'm impatiently waiting a supply of goddies for braiding etc. I did do some twists (kind of like flat twists bit diferent) and left them for a few days but they looked messy after day 2. All my fiddling seemed to be causing more hair to come out haha (probably just seemed like it)

Plus i'm having a little bit of icky time with my hair atm, so i'm trying to leave it alone. I just came off the 'pill' to give my body a rest and well it's turned into a grease ball. *sigh*

Should get my goodies next week hopefully and then I will do some box braids and leave them for a few months - well that's the plan.

Excellent job Coilynapp! Your twists are beautiful!

And Curlywurly, one way to protect your braids/twists at night is to tie a scarf on over the front part of your hair. That will help keep frizzies away for a while longer. Post pictures when you get your goodies.

I still have yet to twist or braid anything.. I can't decide on a style. I'll probably wind up with french braids since anything smaller will give me that lovely scalpy look.
