To waist length!!

Also, if you like the crimped look, you can try six mini braids. Gives a nice zigzag-y look on short hair when you want/need a change

I did curl it for my friends 21st with my mini ghd (thin width i mean), that was fun.I liked it, so much volume! Used heat protection beforehand. however, I am not going to do that all the time, I want long hair too much to cause damage like that.

mini braids/plaits (is plaits an aussie word?) sounds fun, I was looking into buying curlformers too, but I kind of want to hold out so I can longer ones. *sigh* Another thing I've been meaning to try is rags curls. My grandma taught me years ago how to do them. Have to experiment if my hair is long enough though. better be off to study. Think I shall do a DT while I'm sitting here.

Aiming to grow hair to waist from buzz cut - slowly but surely.
I just gave myself a trim The underlayer of my hair is practically straight and when the rest is curly it just sticks out too much. Well, since it helped me get rid of some layers too...I can't say I'm sad about it. Plus, now my braids don't taper that much

ETA: I think I'm officially long hair obssessed now. I want my hair to be at waist when CURLY. I used to just want it waist when stretched!

Hi everyone, sorry about disappearing like that! How's it going in here? Our measuring day is coming up in a week!

I've started really paying attention to doing scalp massages every time I wash my hair, and I swear it's growing like a weed! Or maybe I'm just imagining things...lol

Welcome afro puff! I love type 4 hair, I am so jealous of the root curl and volume!

I have so much trouble getting an exact measurement over the top of my head! I think I'm a little over 17" but it's hard to say. Maybe I should just measure from the hairline on the bottom of my neck to the longest part? It's easier to keep that little hair straight lol. I'm at 4.5 inches from the bottom hairline straight, but I get 1.5-2" of curl shrinkage

Oh man, I totally agree. Root curl is so pretty!

As for the measuring thing, do whatever you want! The difference between measurements is all that matters anyway.

I have a question for you guys...does anyone here use a diffuser to dry their hair? I usually just let mine air dry, but it takes sooo looooong. Just wondering if using a diffuser has yielded noticeable damage to anyone's hair.

I'm trying for waist too! Especially in the back-- perhaps upper rib cage up front (I'm really busty so a lot of hair up front ends up looking like a strange hairy shelf! lol).
About a year and 3 months ago I cut my hair to my jaw line. I had neglected it when it was mid-back length and had to chop it alllll off.
I totally feel you on trying not to pay attention to how fast (OR SLOOOOW) your hair grows. I've just stopped paying attention and one day I was like, HEY, I'm actually a little past the shoulders! Barely! lol But it makes me feel so good to see some length. And ironically enough the same day I noticed, so did a LOT of other people! I must have been glowing from excitement. hehe
I'm 17 and my hair used to be BSL and relaxed, but I cut it. Now I'm growing out my natural hair, but everyday I feel like I made a mistake cutting my hair because it has yet to grow past my shoulders. My ultimate goal is to have it waist length! So, I'm totally a fan of this thread, but I just hope I can accomplish it. Hello by the way! New to the website.
Welcome Benita! What type of curl pattern do you have? Really tight corkscrew curls take a long time to grow out, so even if you would be BSL straight it may be very short curly. If you just cut off the damaged, relaxed ends, I don't think you made a mistake! Damaged hair does not grow well, it splits and breaks.

Hi Opera Diva! My hair is kind of strange. Since my natural hair has grown out it seems to be a mixture of 4a and 2c (some roots are kinky while some are wavy) in the front while simply 3b (roots are big soft curls) in the back. I cut my hair pretty short so I'm sure that this is not a weird mixture do to relaxers. BTW has anyone heard of Creme of Nature hair products?
Can't wait to see the measurements! I've been transitioning for 6 months and I am currently at APL. The longest I've let it get is to the middle of my back (relaxed) so it shouldn't be a problem
I decided not to measure for two months because the trim I gave myself was about an inch if I remember correctly, so that's a bit pointless and I know I'd feel bad. But I cannot wait to measure the next month

Hi everyone i just wanted to pop my head in and sayh abgi hello to everyone this thread. My next growing goal is waist ( I started at chin) and I am currentyl inching my way bast bsl. I have a really long torso though..it feels like it is going to take forever but Its nearllllly there when its straight or wet!! I dint think I am gonna trim it before it gets there tbh, I have a cut booked for october so fingers crossed my hair with hold out by then. Cant wait for teh say I can show of a head of beatiful waist length bright pink curls!!! :P
I'm at 24.5 inches - I trimmed this month. My waist length is 28. I guess I'm a shorty.

I have about seven months to go.

My longest layers have hit well below shoulder length now.. going for a shape up next month (YAY for birthdays! Told myself I could cut then, haven't cut in about 6 months i would say). Still have awhile to go till i get anywhere near waist.. but i'm plodding along still.
