Ok, I have a question. My usual routine is twists the first day after washing, twist out the following day, pull my twist out into a puff the day after that. Would this be considered "wearing my hair out"? I never can tell where twist outs and puffs fall with this. Thanks!!

I would consider puffs and twist outs wearing your hair out but the twist are fine
Hmmmm, ok. The twist out and the puff are my mainstays. I'm not totally comfy with my hair in twists all the time....my hair isn't the length I'd like for that yet. I may not be able to participate

you can do buns or wear wigs. you know wearing protective styles are the best way to retain lenght. alot of people add hair in or do other stuff like sewn in! i was reading the other day about protective styles and thats one of the best ways to retain length. newbies (not calling you one) dont understand the how crucial its to retaining your length. if that's not the route you want to go then she if she'll add low manipulation hairstyle and or protective styles. thats the tip i get regarless of the forum is PROTECTIVE STYLING all the black girls with long pretty hair recommends that

I'll be wearing a wig until my hair grows out some more I can understand not being comfortable if your hair isn't a certain length

Henna is a plant that when mixed with something acidic, can stain hair a reddish color. Its also an amazing conditioner but can be drying, so a DC after or a conditioner in your mix is recommended. It comes in a powder form and can be bought online or at an Indian store.

I may not be able to participate either, my hair is at a length were all i can do is co-wash and go. I really cant afford to get braids or buy wigs.

Ill still stick to no heat or trimming for the two years, Ill challenge myself.

I'm not so much a newbie....but I don't really have the length for buns or twists on a daily basis. The few times I've tried to wear twists for more than one day, they unravel and tangle. I plan on wearing wigs or quick weaves this winter, once this Houston heat calms down. I'm all about the protective styling...I just need more to work with.

I plan on doing a PT/DC tonight so I'll give bunning a try and see if I can fit all my hair back. Wish me luck! I really want to be apart of this challenge

I am putting in some twists right now.

Co-washed, then applied HETT and Aussie Mousse and twisted in big twists. I wait until the twist is 90% dry then make smaller twists.

hibiscus hair mask and DC with fenugreek and almond oil last night= soft and shiny hair

The rest of these herbs sitting in this box have me looking like .... I really need to figure out how to use them!

Ooh, can I join?!? Pweeeeeeeze!!!

So, my current regi, which I think I'll stick with, is this:

Tea rinse with shikakai/amla/brahmi mix, followed by cowash with HELTR, 2x/week. Every fourth wash is with CON red or green shampoo.

Moisture DT on Wednesday, moisture/protein DT on weekend.

Aphogee 2-step treatment every six weeks (I'm natural, but my hair utterly LOVES this stuff, don't know why, don't care).

Cassia paste/gloss treatment every six weeks, 3 weeks after Aphogee.

Follow all DT with acv rinse, leave in conditioner, and bun. On occasion I'll twist, but tendinitis in wrist makes this difficult, so bunning works better.

Moisturize hair nightly and re-bun. Trim once a year, in August (getting hair trimmed tonight), straighten MAYBE 2x/year for length checking only.

I have a question... does anyone do deep DEEP oil treatments with coconut oil?
umm... i think i do. i use neem ans coconut oil on my scalp then coconut oil/conditioner on the hair itself. leave on for a few hrs and shampoo.

OH! im jumping on the band wagon!
I basically do the same thing minus the neem, but I also baggy and add heat to get the deeper penetration, and then I have to cleanse it or co wash it out, depending. If I have no where to be, I will add heat for about 10 minutes or as long as I can stand in this heat, and then keep it bagged for a few hours. Hair is SO FREAKING SOFT after this!

houston girl to. just moved to the woodlands. this heat is horrible! anyway phony ponies work if u use rubber bands soak them for in hr in olive oil to prevent breakage! i use scrunchies (no metal band). and at night cross wrap and use a silk scarf to tie your hair down at night. if you are transitioning still i wouldnt recommending combin. i braid my own hair and wear pretty scrafs over them!

That does it...I'm adding some fenugreek tonight to my GVP Conditioning Balm and Vatika oil DC . I've been doing an amla/brahmi/fenugreek mix for the past couple of weeks and LURVES it! Let me know if you need some tips

Isn't this heat unbearable!?!?!? I can't take it...can't wait til whenever it decides to cool down lol.

I'm going to try wet bunning tonight and check out some BSS for a phony pony. I just did some research on bunning and I think this would be awesome until the weather stops torturing my city. Then I'll be in Wig Town
