Length Length Length ROAD BLOCK

I am currently on my Journey to natural hair. I got my first relaxer, from a hair school:sad1: When I was 12. I am currently transitioning (13mos). Through hair reasearch (youtube, curlynikki, naturallycurlly etc) I've noticed that individuals who had long hair relaxed were able to grow long hair natural. Is there anyone who never achieved long hair (SL & below) relaxed but is now acheiving long hair natural?!?!? I am just curious to know that theres hope! I am currently doing everything possible to insure length retention(protective styling, low manipulation, 2-3x DC a week, scalp massages, and patience)I am just curious to hear other ppls opinion on the matter. I never had long hair before& I dont want to feel like it is something I "can't" do, I know hair grows!!! I'm just curious! Thanks!:iroc::love1:

I kept my hair relaxed or used a flatiron and it would always get close to shoulder and break off. I'm now natural (except for henna coloring) and it's between BSL and waist while curling and waist pull straight.

I grew my relaxed hair (first relaxed Oct '09) out to about collar bone length and then in June or July of 2010 I chopped a bunch of it off in an angled bob, and had only a little bit still relaxed on the very front edges. I could have kept growing because I did just what you're doing now and my relaxed hair was so healthy the stylists I went to for trims were surprised because I had barely any split ends. But, I decided I wanted to jump on the curly hair band wagon again so I chopped most of it off. I've had my fun with short hair, now I've decided to grow it out again even though it's natural, so again I'm doing a lot of what you're doing just to keep it healthy.

I know there are some ladies on Long Hair Community forums that have grown theirs out MUCH longer than that when they've transitioned. The general consensus seems to be that it's worth the patience and work involved :-).

I know you already got the responses you were looking for but I just wanted to tell you that there is a thread about this! I had the same exact question because I too was on sites like Curly Nikki and Moptop Maven. I think where the have a leg up is that they have been natural all of their lives and we are just starting out. So yes, it may seem intimidating. Trust me, your hair will grow long provided that you listen to it and don't fight nature!

I ALWAYS HAD LONG HAIR. MOSTLY SHOULDER LENGTH BUT I WANT LONGER AND HAVE HAD LONGER WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY GIRLS BUT AFTER THEIR BIRTHS I HAD ALOT OF BALD EDGES AND SHEDDING AND THAT WAS WITH PERMS WITH BOTH CHILDREN. SO NOW IS BEEN 9 MONTHS SINCE MY LAST PERM AND I WANT TO GROW MY HAIR PAST SHOULDER LENGTH. MY AVATAR PIC IS MY HAIR ABOUT 4 MONTHS IN I THINK, BUT ITCHING TO BC TOO.

Thanks so much for replying. I thought the logic would work but even sebum has a diffcult time traveling down curly strands lol

This caught my attention because I went through it myself. My hair was always pretty long but when i relaxed, my hair was never healthy. I got it cut a good 6 straight inches to get the dead stuff off and realized that I was messing up my hair and decided to get it healthy. When my hair was relaxed it was probably about bra length. Now that I've been natural for a few years it's BWL when it's completely dry and when pulled straight it almost comes down to my pants :D Just hang in there and I'm sure you can get the length you want
