Default How do you grow out YOUR hair???

Dumb question right? I know there must be more to it than
"just letting it grow"
So here's my deeper questions
Do you refrain from trims and dusting or just cuts?
Do you really see a difference when you drink more water?
Do you spray it with water a certain amount of times a week?
Do you refrain from consuming anything in particular?
I know it depends on what my hair wants but I'm still curious

Here's some of what I do and plan to start doing...
CG method
Taking Msm powder half a teaspoon but might start taking more
2000 iu vitamin d
countrylife maxi hair vitamins
womens 1 a day
64oz water a day
exercising
prepooing
dcing with AOHSR
Dusting when ssks
Protein 1x a week if I don't use a protein gel

Also how do you remember to take your vitamins?

All if those things you wanna do to grow out your hair is very important! Go girl! I have been trying to grow out my hair for years by trying EVERY growth trick in the book. The thing that I realized is that all it takes is time patience and love, honestly. The most important thing to do is retain your length. When I say this, you must get to know your hair. Spend as much time with it when detangling regularly, just be patient. Know you natural shedding amounts. Moisturize & DC. Don't trim to much, you trim, when you NEED it, not on a regular basis. If you're taking care of your ends, why cut/dust/trim it?

I really hoped that helped and just take your vitamins with a meal so you never forget.

I agree with FBH127. I had to take a step back and think about it. I figure out that every product band wagon is not for me. Every style is not for me and that taking care of my body( eating healthy, exerciseing, relaxing, etc.) will take care of my hair. I dont use harsh products and I stick to the same basic products that I figured has worked in the past. I take my vitamins and im careful when handling my hair. I dont abuse it. HTH.

I found that when I have more protein in my diet, my hair seems to grow faster. Now my hair hates protein treatments and will fall out. But when I take my whey protein shakes on the regular my hair is better. I also protective style it for at least two days a week, dc weekly and just touch and feel my hair to see what it needs. Good luck

It's always good to take your vitamins, eat enough protein, exercise & drink enough water. I find that if I pay too much attention to my hair's growth rate - it never grows. But if I try not to obsess over it and just go about my business - ta-dah - it grows fast! Go figure!

I micro-trim my own hair every 4 months or so. I figure at this rate it will grow 2 inches by September 1, which should put me just below BSL.

I could never get into hair vitamins - they were a pain to remember to take, and I don't think they made much difference. I do scalp massages and make sure to protect my ends. That is about it, just taking care of my hair. The more obsessive I get about it, the less it seems to grow!

Hi Bklyn Belle..

Sry if this sounds like a silly question... but if I have a twa and I just get up in the morning, moisturize and seal my twists with castor oil and then put on a beanie, that counts as protecting my ends, right?

Default low-no maintenance styles, protect ends, forget about it

essentially thats all ive been doing for the past year and I have seen great growth without even trying to grow

I find that when i spend too much time focusing on my hair and messing with it, i lose hair and length

just do what you normally do and stop thinking about hair

As for vitamins, I leave the bottle on my kitchen counter so I will see it everyday. It helps.

As for getting my hair to grow, I don't think the vitamins are helping. I use the braid method. Leave twist or braids in for a month sometimes 2 and when I take them out, I let my hair breath for a few days. I spray with water and moisturize daily with olive oil moisturizing lotion. I started really paying attention to my hair and products I use 7 months ago and my hair has grown 2 1/2 to 3 inches since.

Patience is the number 1 key. A lot of people look for the easy fast route, I say fill your days with something to keep you busy where you don't have to keep focusing on your hair growing.

Oh yeah wear something under the beanie like a satin cap to protect your ends from drying out due to the material of the beanie(if it's cotton)

Sounds like you have a good game plan. I agree with everyone, patience is key. When I started transitioning and growing it out in 2008, I was obsessed and took every pill & did every trick in the book and it couldn't grow fast enough. I must say, I really noticed a difference when I consistently took GNC Ultranourish hair, but taking the biotin pills broke me out!

2011, I have a good routine down and decided to give the obsession a rest, and my hair has definitely grown. I wash once a week, cowash 1-2 twice a week, spray with water every morning and add moisture to my curls. I am so bad, I haven't deep conditioned or overnight conditioned-like I used to during my obession, but adding that in once a week again! Definitely makes a difference in softness and moisture.

Taking care of my body through proper nutrition & workouts definitely helps. Being vegetarian, I find when I increase my protein with protein shakes, more tofu, etc, my hair seems to respond. I take my vitamins every morning with a healthy breakfast to make it a routine and ritual to start the day off on a good, healthy note.

Thanks! I noticed that since I've been doing this, my hair is still soft at the end of the day. amazing how one little small thing can make a difference!

When my hair grew from shoulder length to waistlength in 2 years I did not dye it, I did not use any heat, I didn't use any product (just on top of my head for my ponytail), I didn't cut it for two years, and I also got pregnant and gave birth. I didn't use cg method or anything nor took any particular good care of my hair. It is 3b/3c.

Wow...you plan on doing a lot. I just say to keep your hair well conditioned. Don't let it get dry. Take a multivitamin. Eat well. Use a little oil. And call it a day. Your hair wants to grow. It takes far more effort (i.e. heat/color/chemicals) to keep it from growing.
