Anyone throwing out their flat iron? Wanna partner up?

Basically I'm wondering if anyone else is putting down the flat iron in an effort to grow their hair and transform their hair into its healthy naturally curlicious state!?

Hi TrimixDiva,

I am currently trying to give up the flat iron as well. For some reason I get bored with my curly hair so I straighten it and then get bored with that and wear curly and back and forth. But I am trying to stop that because I want to get to BSL this year if it's possible (currently a little past SL) and damaged hair is not very appealing lol. How long are you growing your hair?

Me! I haven't flat ironed my hair since thanksgiving of '10 and it actually hasn't been hard. The main reason I flat ironed was to show off length but now my hair is fairly long while curly so length isn't an issue.

Don't get me wrong I still have moments where I kind of want to but then I think about how long it takes (2+ hrs to wash, blow dry, then flat iron), how I can't take hot showers, walk in the rain etc, and how it takes about a week or two to behave afterwards and it's honestly just not worth it.

It also helps that I get hit on and get compliments way more often with my hair curly

Hey CCW. I feel you on the damage! I also get bored with straight wash n go style so I will be experimenting with flexi rods, braid outs and twist outs. I just realized that my hair can't have it both ways. So I could settle for long straight damaged hair that increasingly breaks off at the ends in which case may not be very long anymore or I can learn to deal with and style my natural curls and have healthy flexible hair that looks Alive. Practice makes perfect.

I would love WL curly but that will take hella years. Im patient though. I'm growing out a BKT which means I technically have 2 textures but I prefer to keep my length and play with styles an trim trim trim till I get all my 3C curls back!

For those that want to join this challenge just post a starting pic. Let's go all of 2012 without putting any direct heat on our hair!

I am!!! I haven't used the flat iron since August! This is the longest I've EVER gone.. It was hard at first because I was use to going back and forth between curly hair and straight hair but now that it's been so long I'm scared to put a flat iron to my hair lol.. My hair has been growing a lot since I stopped using it so I don't see myself using it until I reach my goal length (WL) at least..

Long time since I been on here but I still haven't touched my flat iron! I can tell my hair has grown a lot! I just hate how uneven my hair is once I get to my goal length tho I'm gonna work on evening it out..

No heat has given me GREAT results tho.

Yes indeed. I'm still going strong as well. I had a couple weak moments but I did not pick up the flat iron. My bangs are the shortest . They are tiny corkscrews maybe 1" long. Heres my length check completely dry and curly. I cant wait till my bangs reach my chin curly!

My flat iron sucks! I heard great things about the GVP iron from Sally's, but mine doesn't work worth crap. So it won't be difficult to give up. But yes, I'm keeping away from all heat styling to keep my hair as healthy as possible so I won't be tempted to trim my ends as often.

I don't flat iron my hair anymore. I recently did the big chop and I don't ever plan on straightening my hair

I sold all of my hair straightening products and haven't looked back! I miss my blow dryer for protein and deep conditioning treatments, but I think my hair is better for it. I've been growing out a stacked bob since January and I'm almost to shoulder length when wet! My goal is middle of my back to waist length.
