Default Straightening--Heat Protection

So, I've gone a LONG time without straightening my hair. However, I caved in. I want my hair to be protected when I straighten it.

So, what are some good products to use to minimize heat damage?

Edit: AHH I posed this in the wrong place.
I'm growing my hair from chin length to mid-thigh length!
