Protective styling during awkward stage

Im at the stage now where my hair isnt really short but its not long either. Twists have been my go to protective style for my twa, but now my twists have been having a mind of their own(they go everywhere). I think I have officially entered the awkward stage. What are some good protective styles for this stage? Thanks in advance

I remember this stage. And I see my friends going through it now. Is your hair long enough for a bun? I STUPIDLY got my hair cut in layers at one point so my bangs doesn't know how to act. But You can wear buns or styles where You roll and tuck you hair ( I have to flat twist my bangs down though ) . Those can be dressed up... Good luck !!

I honestly don't know if I can make a bun. I will try it out on wash day. Thanks.

Update

Just wanted to update anyone that was interested. I ordered some magic leverag curlers(knockoff curlformers b/c I don't have $70.00 to spend on something that may not work on my hair), and I'm still awaiting their arrival. I will share my results.

I've wear my hair in pony puffs all the time, and it really helps :) Last month, my hair measured 5.5" and now, it measures 6.5"

I thought protective styling with ponytails and buns helped but it didn't instead I had breakage! Id say wear your hair down sometimes I'm going to try barely wearing my hair up except for french braids.

I had that issue. I just kept wearing twistouts. Roll pin and tucks are great. A lot of tutorials on YouTube. You can try flat twists and updos. For your ponytail holders you may want to consider buying like goody ouch less headbands. Those are what I use. Before I'd buy the regular ponytail holders and then I started buying a plastic one that swore not to snatch my hair. They did anyway but I just use the headband the black skinny ones because they are great and don't snatch my hair. Plus I can control how tight I'd like to get the ponytail one loop or two. You can also try twist n curls or Bantu knot outs- many tutorials on YouTube. Good examples are from naptural85, mahoganycurls, makeupanbeautyjunkie, blakizbeautiful and many more. Hope this helps. The awkward stage will pass just be patient and try different things. One other style would be finger coils too.
