Default My hair grows outwards like a cloud, help!

Hey!

I am currently trying to grow my hair, but I'm finding my hair grows outwards, rather than downwards. It's been this way for a long time, but I'm finally starting to get sick of it. All I want is long curly hair past my shoulders I have thought about thinning my hair, as it is very thick, to encourage my hair to grow downwards. Any other suggestions besides relaxing it? Would be much appreciated!

P.S. I have attached a pic of my hair so you have an idea of what I'm working with!

Some people's hair grows out. Some people's hair grows down. That's just the way God design us.

It looks like your hair does grow down. Do you have layers?

No don't thin it out. My hair was doing the same thing for like 2 years and I just realized how much my hair has grow since I started wearing it curly. I felt like I couldn't get to or past shoulder length while curly for the longest time and now I'm a little past apl curly. Don't give up! It'll happen. For now just enjoy the body because it may not happen to you but in my case now that I'm apl curly its doesn't have as much body and I don't use heat so I don't diffuse. Give it another year and until then have fun with it. Good luck and happy hair journey

I had a really bad hair cut a few months back and the woman cut some short layers in my hair. They've almost grown out now though. At the moment, my hair is slightly longer at the back and the sides are slightly shorter. It's not noticeable. I had to have it blended in because the hairdresser messed up my hair that much. I guess it's reassuring news if you think my hair grows down. Thank you

It's so tempting to thin it out, but perhaps you're right. Your hair looks nice and long now, so I guess patience is the key. Plus, I'd hate to lose the body of my hair because I love it. Just wish it was longer! I will take your advice. Thank you

Yeah just hold off for a bit...you hair looks beautiful and full! Plus, you hair may start to hang a bit more as your hair grows longer (and starts to weigh down your hair). But if it doesn't, your hair will still look great!

Just keep growing it out long... For now, enjoy it while it's fluffy. When my hair got to waistlength I actually really missed its puffy/afroness and started to envy girls walking around with a big puffy fro.

Your hair isn't heavy enough to start going down but the longer it gets it will

Looks like your hair is just short and from the pic, it looks like it is/will grow downward. You will one day have long, beautiful, full, thick big curly hair. My hair looked somewhat like yours when it was shorter. I am only collar bone length now but It is defiantly growing downward. Either way, maybe you should learn to love your hair even if it never grows downward. Many people would kill to have hair like that.
