i will never straighten again. i finally washed after a week of straight hair and my ends look like they're not going to be as curly as before. thats really terrifying. i hate straight or not as curly ends and it looks like a good inch or more that id have to cut off.

@bleuyteuy and depressedcurls.....your curls should come back soon. I don't understand when ppl say their hair loss curl after only straightening with heat once. But maybe if your hair is porous it breaks it down more. My hair won't miss a twirl with heat straightening but my hair is not porous so that may be why. Maybe a quick protein pack to get the curls back will help.

I actually thought mine were gone cause i flat ironed and i dyed it ombre style while straight, but after a couple days of moisture and protein, i did conditioner only styling today and air dryed and my hair is back curly root to ends.

I found out you can rinse your hair with flat beer after youve been straightening and it works like a protein treatment and restores curl. You do it before you wash and leave the beer on for like 5 minutes, then rinse and wash

Does it matter what kind of beer? Does something like Guiness work better than Bud?

When I was younger, I remember a woman telling me she used to roller set her hair in beer. She said it gave her lots of shine and body.

Okay you guys - I don't know if we decided diffusing was a no-no. I was trying to be 100% no heat, including no diffusing, but I caved. The cold weather/low dews are killing me - my hair has been so flat and I'm tired of having cold, wet hair in the morning when it's below freezing outside. So the last time I washed, I diffused for about 5 min or so after I plopped. I know I should feel bad, but I'm soooo happy with my hair right now (sigh). Probably wont do this every time I wash (still trying to keep the heat to a minimum) but I may have to break the diffuser out every once in a while during the winter.

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

Hey, if its too cold then do what you need to be comfortable. A little diffusing shouldn't be bad.

I'll join in...in 4 months I'll be 1 year heat free. My heat damage still hasn't grown out all of the way from heat abuse so I'll keep going until summer... maybe longer..I'm actually afraid of flat ironing my hair because it takes two hours I'm not sure if I am ready to make that commitment even if i straighten just once lol

I never really realized how much of a hassle it really was until I went cold turkey from pretty much heat everyday to NONE..not even blow drying...
I wish everyone the best and I hope we can all be on our way to healthier happier cuuurlszzz!

I wound up going the heat route today because I have a job interview. I wasn't going to get it cut but I did the blow dryer with round styling brush. And yes, then curled it with my wife's curling iron. Didn't lose much curl but made it look more orderly for the interview.
