So its fall and I really dnt want to do anymore damage to my hair with flat irons and blow dryers. My hair is naturally curly so I'm going to challenge myself to rock my curls until summer. I know this will make my hair healthier and hopefully grow! So I'm going to need suggestions on what products to use and hair styles for curly hair cause I get bored with the same style after a while.

I don't use heat much but I will join in and avoid it with you all :-) I do notice my hair grows wicked fast when I leave my hair heat free. Even stopped diffusing!! It's way easier too :-)

If its on the cool and not warm you're good but fair warning it will take longer to diffuse

Oh yes i tried it and spent an hour...and it was still wet. I'll just deal. No heat. I'm excited! I'll update here and stuff. For fall i love adding braids into my hair. Especially with the curls. It looks beautiful.

The only times lately I used heat was to blowdry while using the round styling brush but found it made my hair look worse. I tend to prefer letting it air dry then use the curl shaping spray, I'll either scrunch or finger twirl.

I prefer air dry too. It's just with work at 6 a.m, and it being so cold idk how to make my hair dry without diffusing. If i don't diffuse, it takes awhile. I would wash at night if i could figure out second day hair.

I'm not the OP, but I'd say that would be just fine. I love these challenges. I think I'll be posting my "befores." After my shower and stuff today. I plan on doing this probably until my birthday in April. Only because i don't straighten my hair during summer or use heat and dont wanna wait til it's too hot. I hate straight hair in hot weather. Yuck. But waiting til April will make it 8 months. Unless you count me using my diffuser the past couple weeks, then April would make it 6 1/2 months since heat. I'm excited! I know I'll have my moments though, hopefully i can come back here for support and encouragement and motivation!

I HIGHLY recommend these products.
Sallys GVP conditioning Balm from sallys beauty supply. $7. rinse out.
Tresemme naturals moisturizing conditioner as a leave in if you're protein sensitive. If not, vo5 or shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. Tresemme is around $4, vo5 is around $1, and SM curl enhancing smoothie is $10.
And for a gel, try eco styler Krystal $5. It has protein, so if you're sensitive, try Clairol 3 in 1 mousse $3 or Herbal essence totally twisted gel or set me up gel $4. Gives me great curls.
My favorite combo is Vo5 and Eco styler. And i love switching off with Tresemme naturals as a leave in and rinse out sometimes. Hope this helps.
Oh and for hairstyles, high top buns, braids, side bun with a twist in the front or braid in the front, french braids.

That would be good if you could figure how to get second day hair. I'm not new at being curly just more using products. BTW, you have beutiful hair.

Thank you so much! I'm gonna purchase a satin pillow case, and try that. And maybe use a little more gel at night to have better hold through the night. So do you! Gotta love a man with curls!

Thank you, darlin' When I was 14, I went three months without cutting my hair. I'm definitely an 80s child. Had the white man's 'fro with lots of waves and curls. But being a guy it was hard even though at that time even guys were getting perms. I wore it short and cropped the next 20 years but have worn it longer the last seven years but had been cutting it about every six weeks. Curls start showing after three. Now I'm going more like three months between cuts but am having my stylist leave it longer.

Good luck with what you're doing though I am figuring out what I'm doing.

I'd like to join this challenge too! I haven't heat styled other than occasionally diffusing in a while, but I'm going to stop that completely as well. I've noticed that the best way to speed up my drying time is by plopping. It really helps pull the extra water out of my hair while encouraging my curls and avoiding frizz. I plop right out of the shower and then finish getting ready; I take it out before I leave, but I know some people leave it in until they get to work. It won't dry your hair completely, but it does keep it from dripping all over you. Some people with shorter hair have found that plopping does not work for them, as it smashes the curls funny; in that case, I would suggest using a non-terry towel (flour sack, cotton t-shirt, micro fiber) to gently squeeze the extra water out. As far as styles, I like the suggestions of braids and buns. One of my favorite styles (especially for second day hair) is to braid the front section of my hair then pull it all into a curly side ponytail.
