curleeangel and skydivamegan your hair looks amazing. i hope i can get to that point. (without cutting it off)! i still have a long way to go. my hair started sooo short. mabie an inch of hair and some places 1/2 inch. it was a very short pixie. it is taking forever. how long did it take for u to get to this point. ive been growing 8 weeks.
You can do it want2bcurly! Mine was only about an inch long back in October except for the long pieces in the front. Just try to be patient and experiment with bobby pins and headbands. Good luck, I'm cheering for you.to have long, luscious curls!

I'm growing my hair out from having a shaved head. It's probably been about seven months but I'm not really sure. It's hard to style so I'm hoping that it grows fast. I just want it long enough to do some updos because I feel like my hairstyles don't match my age and I feel awkward. :/ But I love my curls now and I can't wait until my hair is longer and I can try different things with it and I've been trying the Curly Girl Method but it hasn't been long enough for me to judge whether it has made a difference or not but I'm really excited and at this point, I'm obsessed with my hair and taking care of it. But yeah, I guess patience is key. I just have to remind myself about that sometimes.
Another curly growing out a pixie cut here!
I first had it cut about 18 months ago & loved it for about a year but then decided to let it grow a bit longer over the winter, I was doing well but then thought I'd just go for a bit of a re-shape back in February & ended up with some really short layers on top so I have been straightening for a while as it looked really odd curly.
Anyway I was really missing my curls so for the first time last week I just let it do it's own thing & it looks OK, yay!
Still a bit to go before I have a proper style, I'm aiming for something like this but where I'll manage to find a hairdresser to do it is anyone's guess.

So good luck ladies & the only advice I can give you & myself is to have patience, oh & a hair-band, I'm quite liking the skinny ones at the moment.

I think that my last pixie cut was in July 2012. I thoroughly enjoyed my pixie for about 3 years but found some things annoying - the cost of a good hair cut, the frequency needed and how poorly it did in high humidity (namely our entire summer). Laziness and not wanting to spend so much on cuts made me decide to skip a couple of hair cuts. It was so nice to see curls again - I missed them (just not the crazy tight frizz)!

Here is my pixie in August 2012 (it had been growing for a month already):

I somehow resisted the urge to cut it for a few months (incredibly difficult), and only had the back (mullet) trimmed in the early winter.

A few months in, realizing that I needed to treat my hair better:

So I started reading up on CG again and tossed out offending products. Here is my yucky phase:

Ahh, my curls are (were?!) looking better:

Somehow, my hair is looking CRAZIER THAN EVER these days. I don't know if I am touching it a lot, too much bromine mist (hot tub every morning) or too much grey hair, but when I wake up, I look like Richard Simmons. It is a completely round halo of frizz.

I am going to try to protect my hair from sun and chlorine damage too, or I will have to chop off any growth.

SkyDiva - just a side note, I was looking at your latest pic again, and my eldest daughter said, wow, she is pretty! I love her hair! (and that daughter isn't fond of curls!). I love the colour - how often do you need to colour it to keep it looking rich?
I color every six weeks and thanks!

skydiva your hair looks amazing! I plan on getting thru the summer by just doing what im going now which is diffusing curls into place( i have 3a curls with not much root curl but ringlets as it gets longer) .my culrs are not well formed right now but with lots of product and diffusing it looks curlier. it also grows up right now too. i use scarvrs everyday to hide the shorter pieces. i think it looks like a hot mess but i get lots of compliments on it.i work in a hair salon and alot of the hair stylist tell me its very cute and gypsy looking so i keep on growing! without the scarf on the other hand it is a cross between heat miser and bride of frankenstine hopefully the humidity will help the curls.

Want2bCurly, I got compliments on my hair on days when I thought it looked so bad I didn't even want to leave the house! I did learn that as it grew it would move through stages. First it grows out then drops then out again then drops again. It repeats this pattern over and over. Once I realized this and I knew every "out" was soon followed by a "drop" I was much more able to resist the urge to trim back the "out" stages. Like you, the longer mine gets the more it makes wild ringlets that stack and drop and do all sorts of neat bouncy things. I am just now really able to wear it out and big without accessories because in the past 2 weeks I suddenly moved from an "out" to a "drop". Very soon I'll be past the "out" stages and just filling in length. Won't that be a grand day?

I am off to Greece in a couple of months & I'm just hoping that by then it will be long enough to put up some of the time, it looks more like a 'shag' at the moment as the back is longer, its either that or hats.
If I feel the urge to get it cut I just think of the trauma of my last hair cut & that keeps me growing!

Its great to read this thread & realise I am not alone

I thought that the worse of the grow out stages were behind me, but no, no, no!

We are smack in the middle of high humidity and my hair is neither curly and cute (C and C), nor curly and cool (also a C and C, but add a B for breeze bec I could wear it up, off my neck). My hair feels soft, the curls are nice (except in the morning), it is just lacking...style....I feel round, pumpkin headed. And warm. Any attempt at a ponytail is laughable (looks like a horn), and I'm way too old for pig tails.

I find myself staring hard at women with pixies, feeling envious. And forgetting the frequent trims, the ultra curly days, comments from the peanut gallery (my daughters: you look like a man! when my hair was wet)

And, my fav sunhat is now too small!? Must be the bigger hairdo???

The mornings are a bit of a challenge. Frankly, I look like Richard Simmons when I wake up. My kids will try to listen to me, try to pay attention, but I find their gaze wandering to the top of my head, and eyes get wider with wonderment....

Wondering why I am growing my pixie out....

u just described why it has taken me a few years to grow out my pixie and its still not below my ears.lol. i look at short hair cuts, get tired of growing out, have bad hair days and miss the compliments. i then get it cut off and instantly regret it.ive been in this cycle now for 2 or is it 3 years?... im kind of there again, but i am determaned this time. good luck. you r not alone

that I will post my most unflattering photo, but this is a good example of my crazy morning hair. I call it my Richard Simmons hair.....it is so dense, that I can't pass my fingers through it. Any item that goes missing in the house, is thought to be hiding in this nest called my hair hahahaha!

Sadly, my morning hair isn't any better, the longer that it is.... this doesn't help my desire to continue to grow out the pixie - I keep thinking about my pixie in dreamlike terms, remembering it as being nicer, easier to control than it probably was ha!
