This is my exact situation! I'm a 2C: S-waves on top, curls underneath, with medium texture (not coarse, but not fine). My hair doubles in size from wet to dry!

In 2011, I'd had a couple of bad cuts that turned my hair into a 'fro, and consequently I decided I needed a change. I chopped 4 or 5 inches off and got an inverted bob style. The problem was, of course, that this style looks much better straight than curly, so I was flat-ironing my hair every other day. Finally, I got sick of spending all that time and effort on it and wanted to go back to no-muss, no-fuss natural curls--but that meant I had to grow my hair out. My short hair grew quickly at first, but plateaued at a length just above my shoulders. I've had it cut since: put angles in the front and trimmed the overall length so that it's no longer shorter in back, but I'm at a loss now. My hair has that "Christmas Tree" look: it's flat on top and poofy on bottom due to all the body. I'm trying to be patient and just let it grow, but I need a short-term solution on how to wear it in the meantime. Should I get a trim and have more layers put in to even out the Christmas Tree (I currently have minimal layers)? Should I thin the ends? Should I get a straightening treatment to keep my hair manageable for the next 6 weeks? Please help!
I also am a 2C and chopped a good amount of length off a few months ago because I was sick of how terrible the ends of my hair looked from straightening, and it wasn't getting any better. Now I regret it, and am trying everything possible to get my awkward shoulder length poofy hair to look decent while i wait for it to grow.. even just a few more inches would do wonders i currently have no layers, and i have really thick hair.. has anyone tried adding layers?
Your hair sounds just like mine! I got layers and now I'm miserable with them. If you get them don't get too many or short ones.

My hair is shoulder length with layers that are at a bit above my chin. What do y'all mean about putting your hair up to help it grow faster? Like wear a ponytail everyday? My layers wont let me do a bun.I feel like I've been stuck at my shoulders forever too.

I'm a 2c

ive wondered how too. I guess just putting up everyday. thats what im gonna be doing very soon. my hair is already hitting my shoulders. thanks to tea tree oil and coconut oil. I think the tea tree oil gets all the crap off my scalp so my hair can grow.

Hambo02, How/when do you use the tea tree and coconut oil? I'd be interested in trying that to see if it helps my hair.

I use the tea tree oil in all my shampoos and cowashes. just a drop is all you need in them. for years i had a huge problem with build up and flakes and it was nasty. Plus my hair took forever to grow cos my scalp never breathed. The tea tree oil gets rid of any build up for me and my head is never itchy anymore.

when I use coconut oil. I use it as a sealer after my leave in and before my styler. But latley I dont even need a gel or a mouse because the coconut oil has enough hold and controls my frizz so well. so I've been weening my hair off the stylers.

Also with coconut oil I rub my finger tips with it and massage my scalp. It makes my hair feel so good and my scalp feel good. I only do that after a shampoo though. if I do it after a cowash its too gunky for me.
