Default My hair hasn't grown in over 6 years?

My hair has been the same length since I was about 12, I'm 18 now. It goes, because I have this blonde streak in my bangs, and I have to touch up the regrowth, but it's the same length. I've wanted long hair for years, and I can't get it.

The ends of my hair are pretty damaged. But, for me to get rid of everything that is damaged, I would end up with awkward above the chin bob type afro. My hair is about half an inch past my collarbone

I've tried everything. advice?

If the ends are damaged then your hair will just keep breaking. If you don't want to chop off so much at once then you could do a little at a time.

So the good news is that your hair is growing. The bad news is there is a great deal of breakage. I would not recommend chopping your hair off unless (a) the damaged ends are getting knotted and/or (b) you are comfortable with shorter hair.

It sounds like your hair needs some serious TLC. Make sure to maintain a healthy protein and moisture balance.

You say that your hair is damaged, so the way to correct that or at least help you retain length so you could grow out the damaged hair would be to start HEALING your hair. If you don't want to cut off all the damaged hair just yet, try cutting off maybe just a few inches and then wait 6 months and the trim some more off.

Meanwhile you'll want to focus on deep treatments whether they be moisturizing or protein. Since it sounds like you have have damage from bleaching, I would suggest a protein treatment maybe every other week followed by moisturizing treatment (deep condition). And then deep condition your hair a few times week to gain back some of the moisture you lost.

Also, protective styling might work. Try a messy bun or top knot with a silk scrunchie (tuck your ends underneath to protect them from the elements!)

These are just my suggestions, I had the same problem with breakage, but from straightening and this is what helped me heal my hair and retain length so I could grow. Take what I said and tweak it so it works for your hair.

You'll only learn what works through trial and error.

HAPPY GROWING!

I don't know if you do that already, but I would stop using sulfates (even the gentle lather sulphates)&silicones. And indeed, a lot of moisture and proteďn. Do you already use a leave-in conditioner and a sealant?

If your hair is damaged that much because of the bleaching, it is maybe a good idea to stop, or limit that. It might be a better idea that you switch to highlighting instead of touch up the whole regrowth. Highlights can be done once in 3, 4 months (you don't see the regrowth too much), while touching up the regrowth has to be done every 4-6 weeks. You can also add some low lights in the blond part, so that it will look more natural. You can also ask the stylist to dye your hair in your natural collor, but most of the time that doesn't really work out very well.

But, the very best option for your hair is probably that you get rid of all the damaged hair, and stop bleaching, heat&shampoo FOREVER. Yes, that's hard, and your hair is looking a little akward for some time. But in the end you'll probably be more happy with your hair then ever before.

there are a couple of things you can do. I have been natural for 10 years, I am 25 now. when I was 18 my hair wouldn't go past my shoulder length and I kept wondering why. this is what helped me:

- trim my hair when necessary
- co wash my hair only , shampoo once a month
- religiously do the GHE METHOD. (greenhouse effect method)
the greenhouse effect method grew my hair an inch a month and now I am at tail bone length. try the GHE METHOD and you probably will get great results . all I do is, on dry to damp hair, apply olive oil to my ends. NOT SCALP. I put on two plastic caps, then two silk scarves. I do this every night. and this is basically it. you will know if you're doing right by looking in the shower cap the next morning and you should see water droplets. the water droplets are the proof of the greenhouse effect. you will also know that you're doing it right by feeling your hair in the morning, (if you don't see water droplets), if your hair is warm and streamed, you know it's working. you can also go to www.realqueens.net to see more info. I hope this v works.

Did you use 2 plastic caps and cover it with a satin/silk scarf? And you can lightly spritz your hair before your cover it. Remember to oil your ends only with a natural oil before you put the plastic cap on. Make sure there is no extra product in your hair before you do this. Example: no leave in conditioner or conditioner.
Also shampoo your hair first so your hair is product free.. Remember:

The only moisturizer your going to need is Water. Then seal your ends only with oil. Cover hair with 2 plastic caps then cover your plastic caps with the scarf at least 1 hr to overnight. I usually do my ghe while I sleep. Try doing it before bed and sleep with it on. Hope this helps

I didnt spritz b4 hand, nor did i shampoo my hair im sure thats where i went wrong. So just a few mins ago i attempt @ this again but i modified it alot please let me know what u think:

I applied warm mix oil to my scalp (coconut oil, jamacan black castor oil,& jojoba oil) then put on a plastic cap and sat under my hair steamer for abt 20 mins. Then i kept the cap on and put a grocery bag over that.lastly i put my bonnet over that now im headed to bed. This feel alot better than last nites treatment i applied these oils bc they promote growth. I will rinse out tom. And do what you say the rest of the week. I will try to do this at least 3x weekly and the oil treatment once.

Eta: i just turned this into a hair growth challenge on the growing out forum!

yea it's best to start on fresh hair. and I absolutely love hot oil treatments. especially after my egg protein treatments. I think that way should work. I honestly never tried the GHE method on wet hair . let me know how that works goodluck poo
