Hi curlies,

has anyone experience with growing bleached or dyed hair long?

I used to bleach my hair a lot (after I totally ruined my hair I went on the internet to learn how to take care of it... and came out on this website). Now I only do highlights every 3/4 months, and the hair that is only highlighted is much healthier (but off course also 'younger' and always CG-treated).

But did anyone accomplished to grow dyed/bleached hair long, like BSL curly or longer? Did you experienced more breakage?

Bleached-damaged 3a hair. Fine, porous&dry, medium to high density. Goal: growing the painted hair out (I only do some highlights in the out grow every 3-4 months), and have long healthy hair till at least BSL when curly.

Yes, in October 2011 I decided to stop bleaching my hair and just dye it back black. I had bleached it like 15 times :S and it was the most damaged hair i've ever seen. It was about collarbone length then and now it's past bsl and almost waist. I used to get a lot breakage when I wore my hair in buns and tight braids because I didn't know any better. I still get a little breakage now but not as much, I also think I was using too much protein and now that I don't use it anymore I have less breakage.
I seriously doubt your hair is as damaged as mine, and i've managed to grow it long.. so don't worry you can still grow long hair even if it's bleached

I only bleach 3 times a year. I would be sure to get a color that would blend nicely with my natural color when it grew out. I used get them to do a toner in between foil sessions rather than add bleach and highlights when I was really desperate. I'll wear it up in a bun a lot too when the roots get crazy and deep condition like my life depends on it!

thanks for the advice! My ends are pretty good since I am GC. I try to DT every week. It just that I need a lot of patience and that's hard . But you let them do a toner in between foil sessions? Why? What does a toner do? I know they do a toner every time after they put highlights in my hair?

I'm thinking about trimming my own hair, because the hairdresser always cut to much in my opinion.

Yep! My natural hair is DARK so if I have them do an all over toner it blends better to have the "toner roots" than the natural ones. That's just my experience though and it worked for me

I feel your pain on them cutting too much... The stylist often thinks that dry ends (of course because it's just been bleached and heat styled for 3 hours straight) means that they are broken and need to be chopped off!! Usually I either need a very light dusting or a couple days to get the moisture back in. Sucks when months of growth can be cut in seconds
