Biotin = skipped period?
I've been taking 2000mcg biotin for about six weeks (in addition to my multivitamin) for hair growth. I didn't have any side effects with it, though I skipped my period this month. I had a tinge of blood last week (a week after it was supposed to come). Before you ask, no I'm not pregnant. I actually skipped a period once before when I was taking biotin, and when I stopped taking the biotin a couple days later, it came. This time around, I quit taking it two days ago, but still no sign of my period. Though, I've been extremely tired the past few days, so maybe it's coming.
I was just wondering if it is a coincidence that a month or two after starting biotin, both times, I missed my period. I quit taking it the last time because it didn't seem to be helping my hair growth. After reading some posts here, I decided to try it again, but in a higher dosage. I'm just wondering if others have experienced this with biotin, and/or if it's normal to miss a period because of new supplements being introduced to the diet. I had asked my doctor before, and he'd said that unless it has hormones in it, shouldn't cause me to skip a period. I'm trying to rule out things. With the tiredness and missed period, I'm thinking I may be getting sick. Stuff is going around and I recently started a new job and have been anxious and out of whack with that.
