Default Unrefined Vs. Refined

I just don't get it ,whats the difference between refined and unrefined cco (coconut Oil)I know refined means no scent but people say unrefined is better. Does anyone use refined to make their hair grow or has anyone found one of them better? My coconut oil I got yesterday for 5 dollars isn't famous it's called Bedessee Jamaican Pride. It's not really known I just found out about it yesterday and it's refined the ingredients is deodorized and filtered coconut oil.

There may be additional antioxidants in unrefined but coconut oil is not a patch on extra virgin olive oil for such activity anyway. Some may be concerned over the possibility of solvent extraction methods. http://www.aromadictionary.com/EVOO_blog/?p=296

I use refined for reducing porosity and increasing shine, works absolutely fine since it is a rich source of the key active fatty acid lauric acid. The published research papers simply refer to coconut oil NOT virgin, I'm not aware of any scientific evidence that unrefined is better for hair. Thinking logically hair is dead so unlikely to benefit from antioxidants in any significant way nor be affected by the extraction method. Perhaps claims are down to misunderstanding or placebo effect.

Fractionated coconut oil is a different beastie, it's liquid at room temperature and does have a different fatty acid composition.
