Default Odd growth stages

I have layers and I'm at an odd growth phase. You know the kind where your hair isn't shaped right anymore and it's so tempted to cut it.
I'm sure I'll just tough it out but it's hard not to give in and trim my layers. If I do that though I lose my growth and I'll have to wait longer to get past this stage.
It's frustrating!

Yup, I'm there, and I've been itching to cut it. It's getting warmer during the day, and my neck got all sweaty when I was walking to work yesterday. I like to be able to leave my hair down, so I am soooo tempted to cut it short again. I just know I'm going to hate it though.

This is the longest my top has been since I was young so I'm out of my comfort zone. The other day I had some triangle head going on ew
I think that's my sign to start clipping at the roots again maybe.... something!

I always wear my hair down, I just turn the air up in the summer but I have to say outside when I'm playing with the dogs that's another matter. I used to have my hair long enough I could at least pull it over one shoulder so it's mostly off the back. I can't wait for that day again.

I've been growing out also. My bangs that used to be at eyebrows are down to mouth level and my shortest layer in the back used to be at top of ear is now only three inches from the bottom. I've been trimming the very bottom every three months or so, but I love the length. When it's straigthened I am about 4 inches above bra strap length.

When I look at my fotki I can see how my curls have changed, when I had the all over layering I had fuller bigger curls. Now I have a flatter top and more long separate coils. I still want to see what my curls will be like at a longer length and when the bangs are at least chin length.

This is the first time in about 20 years that I have grown out my bangs and layers and I am at that "my hair has no shape/style" phase and I am tempted to make an appointment. Then I read a forum about someone getting their hair ruined and decide to just keep growing.

Thsi is my first time in a lot of years with no bangs. It's sort of a shock to the system but man I'm glad not to have them hanging in my eyes!

You're right that botched job is enough to make me not go for a professional cut. So when I finally do cut it, I'll just do it myself.
Right now I'm just getting odd growout shape at least, no split ends or anything soooooo Ok no cutting, it's agreed. Whew that was a close call

Ugh, I know what you mean about those phases.
I can't stand my hair when it's between chin and shoulder length.
I love my hair best at chin length but then I can't put it in a pony and I grow it out. Then it has to go through that ugly stage between chin and shoulder and by the time it gets longer than shoulder length, I end up chopping it off to chin length again. A vicious cycle with only myself to blame.
But I'm determined to get it long again. It's just at shoulder length when dry so I'm pretty much through the rough part. By the time summer comes and I want to put it in a pony when the top's off the Jeep, I'll be happy I didn't chop it back off.

I just saw a recent pic of your hair, it looks so soft now! It's falling really nice in that pic too, give it here I'm green with envy!

Thanks!
I just looked at your February pics and it doesn't look like it's at an odd stage at all!
If I feel a big chop coming on I just give myself a teeny trim and it usually gives my hair some new bounce without slowing down the growing out process too much.
Don't cut!!

We're always our worst critics I guess, thanks for the pep talk!

My hair is going from volume and less curl to more spirals but less volume. I suppose it's time to adjust my routine or just get used to the new look. It's just so different all of a sudden!

Any change is a shock to the system I guess. I'll concentrate on the upcropping of more spirals and ignore the rest for now

Oh am I so with you in the awkward stage! I had my hair sliced/thinned (you know, take a hunk of hair, run the shears down the length of it to thin it)

That was a mistake and a half.

Now I have paintbruch head going on, in addition to hair that would make spirals, I think, if it were long enough to do so! I have little bits that will, and I am so tempted to whack it off to blunt and start over.

Trouble is, I'm chicken. And my hair grows unbelievably slowly. As in, when I was pregnant, I didn't have to get my bangs trimmed once, that's how slow. Sigh.

Summer's almost here, maybe it'll pick up then. If I don't pull a brittany and shave it off before then.

I know what you mean about the awkward stage... I am stuck in it for all eternity. I already attempted to have it "fixed" but that's a whole other thread... anyway, I will be stuck in this stage for the next decade... Or at least it feels that way.

smallfry I just read your post.

I'm so sorry. If it is any consolation, you do look good with short hair...

I completely understand about growing out bad cuts. I'm afraid to go to a hair dresser now. If I had a good trim though I guess it would look better for now but I'd be going through this stage again.
At least yours will grow out better now
