Length + Weight?

I am growing my hair out now, and feel very frustrated sometimes with not being able to see my length all that well. Does anyone know if your hair at some point starts to weigh itself down enough that you see more of your length with wash and go's? (I realize this may be my problem too, only wearing wash and go's or variations of it, I just haven't found a protective styling that I like better than my natural curls as of yet)

Background: my hair is (I think 3C/4A), fine in texture, low-medium density of strands, and is in longish layers in the front to frame my face when straight, add volume in the back, and bangs that are catching up to even out the front layering.

Yes, in my case at least. When my hair is shorter I get a lot of shrinkage. Right now it's around waist length when wet but shrinks just below my bra strap when dry. The weight makes it lie flat and more wavy than curly at this length.

Mine just started to drop earlier this year. But...idk my hair is weird...

If i stretch it out its waist length...but after i finish detangling and styling it in the shower its Bra strap to Mid Back length

But when its completely dry? It tickles my shoulders :(

Im a type 3 on top where the strands are mostly coarse. My nape and temple areas are type 4 and medium-fine strands. These curls contribute to my crazy shrinkage! Ugh!!!

I wish my hair would be Bra Strap length curly when dry but i guess i'd have to be butt length or classic length for that... when stretched out.
The struggle is real. Lol

Thank you Ladies so much for your replies! I'd been wanting to ask that question for awhile now, thought it was a stupid question and that I would be laughed on out of here, so I didn't. It reminds me that I need to just be patient- something that I tell others often (in regards to exercising/dietary habits) but apparently need to be reminded of often myself with my hair.

I stopped relaxing in Feb. of 2012; got regular trims then cut the last 2-3 inches out on Christmas Eve that year. My hair is a little longer than where it was when I stopped relaxing now, but who knew my relaxed hair could weigh my hair down so much! Looking back at photos, I'm noticing now what I didn't notice then: as I lost more of my relaxed ends, my hair was getting shorter and curlier.

Not a stupid question at all. In fact, recently I've been debating whether to cut off some of my length so I can allow the hair to curl more. Kind of the opposite problem, but it's made me think about the length and weight issue too.
