Im trying to grow my hair out and I keep getting knots at the tips of my hair that I have to cut out!! I wash my hair every 3-4 days and while im in the shower I comb it with a wide tooth comb and thats when I find them. Is there something I can do where I dont have to comb my hair every day to help this?
I get knots all the time. I don't cut them because I would have no hair. People say u need to keep your hair moisturized. That doesn't help me either. It's just the makeup of my hair. I wear WnGs so I don't comb my hair everyday. I believe the only way u can limit them is to do protective styles
It depends on the knots- I have single strand knots like the ones I think mimi is referring to all the time. My hair is a 3C/4A mix that just curls up on itself. If the knots are from multiple strands, then it could be a few different things.

Again, it could still be moisture issues like mimi has said and better moisture retention will help.

For me, another solution is trimming. I have horrible problems with tangling when I need a trim.

The other solution to that for me is not handling my hair too often. Arranging my curls, reapplying water and products, things like that don't cause it. However, if I touch my hair throughout the day, or too often between washes this happens.

I don't know if any of these things will help you or not but hopefully you will be able to figure it out.

Pre-Poo: infrequent now, Coconut Oil overnight
Shampoo: Curls unleashed/for occasional sulfate wash when needed, everlasting sunshine.
Conditioner: Suave Naturals Everlasting Sunshine and GVP's conditioning balm.
Styler: iagirl's flaxseed curl cream or gelatin gel/conditioner mix. <3
PT: iagirl's gelatin treatment 3-4 times a month, with conditioner/honey/avj
I have this problem as well, but it reaches its peak after I shampoo my hair. When I get out of the shower and seal, I notice large knots, which I try to ease out. When that fails, I just grab my shears and cut them out. However, I don't want to continue to cut them out because I won't have any hair left to cut if I do.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
You can try an apple cider vinegar rinse before you put in your leave in. That's what helped me. You have to use cool water and it's better to not rinse it out. So dilute it until you can tolerate the smell. The acv smooths your hair so it doesn't snag and knot up too much.

That didn't happen to me when in used apple cider vinegar. My hair was shedding when I used it. So not cool.
I used less than a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a sink full of water. Hot mess.
Knots like this used to happen to me. Using a more moisturising leave in has helped. I also stopped using combs or brushes and I finger detangle with lots of olive oil before washing. Also I only cowash or cleanse as the shampoos dry my hair which leads to knots. Finger detangling helps because it doesn't split my ends like combs or brushes do and split ends seems to make my hair knottier. There'll always be one or two small knots (made up of two strands together) that I cannot get out but they are tiny. Sometimes I'll snip them off and sometimes I'll leave them - I rarely find them again in all this hair!!
Gently hold the hair at the ends when you detangle. It will loosen the knots so you can get them out without damaging or cutting any hair. I've been learning that from finger detangling vids on YouTube. My ends don't frizz up when I do this either.
I used to get them too. Detangling from bottom to top with lots of conditioner and keep hair stretched helped me. I don't have any ssks anymore

Oil rinsing and keeping your hair stretched will work wonders!

Also, you might want to reconsider washing your hair so frequently.

I get ssks but not a whole lot of them unless I screw up with protein overload, expose loose my hair to high wind or let my hair dry unstretched. Oil rinses help. For me to biggest difference has been moisturizing and sealing my ends every night.
I avoid knots by washing my hair regularly and getting my hair trimmed every 8-10 weeks. When my hair starts to shed, I know its time to trim.
For me...silicone conditioners. I got more knots when I was full CG

For me, I've found finger detangling from roots to tips, vs. tips to roots helpful. When I hit a SSK, I wash it with soap and water and pat it dry. Often, that is enough for the product-free hair to slide apart with a gentle pull. If not, I pull the strands apart from the bottom up.

When none of the above works, I snip it off.
