Down in the Dumps... Talk Me Out of a Big Cut

Well, lately I am down in the dumps. My hair still feels dry and stiff no matter what I do. I am doing weekly DT and co-wash or condition daily. I am laying off the protein just in case that's what's causing the problem. My hair still does not look or feel healthy to me although I admit I have no split or dry ends.

Also, everyday it seems like I have too much product on my hair. When I run my fingers close to my scalp, I always feel a residue on my hand and sometimes I feel spots where I can feel the leave-in for sure.

I have not yet found my HG and am just buying products constantly. I started with Deva, moved on to Jessicurl and now am doing GF C&S with some L'Oreal Tightly Wound, which seems to make my hair even more dry. Think I may go back to Jessicurl since apparently I was applying the CCSS and RR in the wrong order.

I just don't know what to do anymore and am seriously contemplating just cutting it all off. I don't want straight hair. I want to love the hair I have all the time -- not just some of the time and above all I want it healthy.

Maybe I'm PMsing.

Any words of wisdown hair gurus?

You know what's weird some times my hair feels drier if I co-wash to often ,also doesn't the leave-in you use have a cone?

Maybe you need to clarify?

Yes, the G&F does have a 'cone in it, but I do clarify. So, I guess I should completely nix the all 'cones and then see. What products does that leave me with?

Never ever do your hair while pmsing. Wait and see if you want to cut it after your hormones settle.

Does your hair feel dry when it has no product in it?

To be honest, I have not felt my hair dry with no product in it in forever. lol.. Before, when it was flat ironed straight it didn't feel so dry, but when poofy it was still somewhat dry.

The underside of my hair always feels soft and smooth, but the majority is dry, dry, dry. *sigh* LOL

BTW, I was just joking about the PMS.

Maybe you could try going product-less for a couple of days, or just use a leave-in conditioner and tie it up in a bun. Could be that your hair is getting parched from having those products on it all the time. Have you tried clarifying weekly? Sounds like you need a vinegar rinse or baby shampoo (good clarifier) to get rid of that excess product build-up - you could be feeling that, and not your hair.

I do clarify and I can't go with only a leave-in or my hair swells into a big mess and I can't just pull it back because I have bangs, so they will just stick up and poofy.

Maybe this weekend I will attempt to go product-less and see what happens... oh the horror!

CurlyQTPie,don't care your hair out of frustration.We all get frustrated at some point with our hair.I know I do,I want longer than BSL when straightened,and it's like it's taking forever to grow

Sometimes,I just say the heck with it until I realize how long it took to grow and get healthy.Now,my daughter has frizzy hair and get dry since starting puberty,and I have to put activator gel on her hair to keep it moist,mine,too.I hope you find something to help with the dryness.

You know what I do when my hair starts to drive me nuts, I braid it, two pigtails. A little trim always helps my curls, too.

One thing I noticed also, is the more I fixate on how bad my hair is behaving, the more it drives me crazy..that's when I do a DT and pull it into a low ponytail for a day or two, no products, no diffusing, nada.

Is your hair long enough to wear it up in a ponytail or maybe a bun? When I'm feeling lousy about my hair, or pms-ing, I find it helpful to just put my hair up in a bun for a few days. I'll only take it out to wash and let it air dry a little, then it's back up. I think it helps to just put it back and forget about it every so often. This has also helped me avoid cutting it out of frustration.
