I straightened my hair for a couple of days this week, and people kept commenting on how long my hair is. So I march myself over to a big mirror to see, and HOLY COW my hair is almost BSL! Now I know we get shrinkage, but I swear my hair has been collar-bone length when curly for nearly a year. I could have sworn it's barely been growing. Maybe as my hair grows longer, it shrinks more? But dang, I lose like 5 inches now! So now I want to straighten my hair all the time.

I'm the same way. My hair when wet is almost down to my bra strap - dry it shrinks up a good 5" or so as well. The only time my hair is straight is when I get my hair highlighted - my former stepdaughter does it and she loves to straighten my hair. I love how it moves and swishes and feels and is so long! IF I could get my hair to do what it does when SHE does it, I'd probably opt to wear my hair straight all the time . Plus I think I look better with straight hair (my husband strongly disagrees ).

I was having a discussion with some friends a few months ago about why guys like long hair. When I said something one of them "you don't have long hair!". I was SO miffed ! I wanted to go wet my hair and show her how long it is when wet! I mean - I know it's not THAT long .. but still!!!

I completely understand this. I've actually been wanting my hair to be "less" curly lately because I want it to look longer! I haven't been using much styling products, scrunching or anything and yet my hair still can shrink up to just past my shoulders. Wet it is almost bsl too. My hair has been "just past shoulder length" when dry for almost a year now. I was about to take a monthly growth picture to add to my album last month but it looked so much shorter than the previous month's picture that it was discouraging to me. I know it's growing though! I think it's the 3a's that experience this the most.

See, I can do a pretty good job of straightening my own hair, and it doesn't even take me that long. It's so hard to resist the temptation... in fact, it's straight right now. I'll take a pic if it still looks decent when I get home.

Its amazing how much curly hair can shrink, isn't it? Even if it isn't extremely curly! Straightening is when you can actually realize how long it has gotten. Otherwise it feels like your curly hair doesn't grow! ~~jax

I am with you - if I could straighten my hair the way they do at the hairdressers (no flat iron - just blow drying) I would do it a lot more. I also think I look better with straight hair - it's weird but I think it makes me look younger - I feel like the curls make me look 'dated' if that makes any sense at all.

Yeah, it always surprises me too. Yesterday at work, I was outside for a secondhand-smoke-break, and one of the straight haired girls asked me how long my hair would be if it were straight. She pulled down a piece in the back, and it was about three inches above my waist. It sprung up to the bottom of my shoulderblades as it was humid yesterday, but it also sometimes sits right around BSL. I feel like I have to grow three inches straight for every curly inch. It's worth the curls though.

My hair doesn't shrink all that much but it still tends to feel so much longer when it's straight.
Thing is, I can straighten it with just a blowdryer and brush. (It's almost too long for my short arms though. LOL) I think I look better with straight hair too but I realize I can't straighten it too much *and* grow it out long and healthy. Plus my hair is HOT when it's straight. Not just from blowdrying, like later in the day. My head gets hot. I guess it's from my hair being smoothed down against my head rather than having waves for the air to move through or something. All I know is it's significantly warmer.
Man, it makes it look/feel long though!
