Longer but shorter?

I know others must experience this. Anybody else seem to notice that even though your hair is growing, it only is longer when it's wet? But dry it shrinks so much that you don't see a difference? What's up with that?!?! The pic in my avatar was taken in November. Haven't cut it since so I know my hair has grown. But when I check it in the mirror I swear it looks shorter than in that pic! It's almost like products just shrink it up! I do the pull curl/let it go and I know it pops up a good 5 inches or more when it's dry.

Ahem .. rant over .

EDA: Okay, today I didn't scrunch anything. I used a mf towel to get the drippies out, then stood up and put my CK in with a wide-tooth comb. Then added my mousse and a little bit of gel. Raked them in and still didn't scrunch. My hair still dried into curls/ringlets but looks longer. Odd how hair either gets curlier/shorter or weighted down as it grows.

I've noticed this too. It is quite frustrating to have wet hair and think it has grown so much, then when it dries it looks as though there has been no change in months!
2c or 3a Cut most of my hair off in July '12 and am working on regrowing it.
I know what you mean, I've been stuck at BSL for a year now. Wet my hair shows I've grown about 5 inches, dry same measurement as last year.

Another strange problem I have, I hope I can write this so it makes sense. But when I compare pictures of other peoples hair with the same length, mine doesn't look as long. I mean, I can see that it is the same length by where it comes down to, but still it doesn't "look long" on me.

This is exactly what is happening to me now. My 3a hair gets curlier as it gets longer so as it is growing (a little longer than chin now) it swiggles up more so it doesn't look like I'm getting very far - although it looks better, it just doesn't look drastically longer like it would if it was straight.

Count me in in with this phenomenon! I have 2C-3A hair, and the same thing is happening. I haven't had my hair cut in 5 months(other than my own bang trimming since I look better with them), and my hair doesn't look really any longer than it did 3 months ago. But when it's wet it looks longer. The longest part of my hair is now shoulder length, and my front pieces are about 2 inches shorter than shoulder length, a bit of an awkward length right now. But I'm absolutely NOT caving in and going for "a trim" because the last time I did, it was two inches too short, although very well cut!
Wow, I hadn't checked back to see if anyone had ever chimed in . Glad to see others that struggle with this curly hair phenomenon! It's odd how in some cases, the longer the hair gets it pulls out the curls and in others the longer it gets the curlier it gets. Oh the wacky world of curls!!!!
