Growing out from S-H-O-R-T need advice

I am growing my hair out from a short style. It is pretty dried out from blowdrying and straightening. I have stopped that nonsense and have embraced the curls and started treating them with the love they deserve.

Here's my question, my hair had started to break off on the top layer about three to four inches from the scalp. Should I continue with the regular trims until my hair is healthy and then grow out or just start now. I am more concerned with what would be better for the health of my hair--not necessarily getting to the finish line fastest.

I have 3(b) short corkscrew curls and am all about the headband right now!

I would probably keep trimming, especially if you don't mind your current length and don't have far to go to get rid of the damage.

I've found that Biotera (99 cents per pack at Sally's Hair Suppy Store) is a reconstructing conditioner and it helps reduce the breakage and strengthen hair. You can wash or wet your hair and put it on and work it through with your fingers. I leave it on overnight with a heatcap (usually a grocery bag) and then rinse the next morning. I do not use any other products and let it dry naturally.

I've noticed a big difference when I do this and don't. A lot of breakage when I don't and not as much when I do.

Thanks for the advice! I am going to sally's today, so I will pick up one of those packs and give it a try.

Since I first posted, I have been doing a lot of overnight deep treatments--with a variety of moisturizing conditioners. (The SO is amused, thank goodness.) This along with quitting the hair-abusive behavior has really made a difference in how may hair looks and feels.

I've even had two compliments in two days--from strangers. One really cracked me up. She said I had beautiful curls, and (this is the funny part) "it must be nice to just be able to wash and go." (HA!!!!!! HA!!!! HA!!!!!) Yes, that would be nice . . .

I'm still going to continue with regular trims until it is in better shape and the head band is still my best friend
