Default BSL to Waist

I saw a thread like this on TLHC and it seemed pretty helpful.

Is anyone between BSL and waist length? At BSL trying to get to waist? How much longer do you have to go? Any tips? Also once you get to at least BSL do you notice you don't measure as much?

Those of you at BSL on your way to waist how hard is waiting to get there? For myself I am at BSL when stretched or wet and brushing BSL when dry. It's just starting to feel long now, but I can't wait to reach my goal of waist or elbow.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

the bottom of my V cut ends reach bsl (bottom of strap) when curly... i am about almost halfway in between bottom bsl and waist when wet and stretched.
i quit measuring because i couldn't get accurate results (user error! i need a shirt or something with lines on it so i can get accurate measurements!)
i think once you reach bsl you stop obsessing (or at least i did) maybe it was more of a time thing than a length thing though (like when i first started i was all gung ho and that excitement kinda wears off?!)

biotin has helped me get some length pretty fast (not sure how much since i haven't been measuring!)

My hair is a bit longer then BSL curly.
I don't measure because I can't, my results were always wrong.
Waiting is easier for me now that I put it up, it's better when I don't have to look or think about my hair.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I suck at measuring. I can get a varying result each time. I was actually thinking about marking a line on my shirt..(or my back) and measuring to that!lol Maybe once I reach BSL or past when dry I won't feel the need either. According to my shinkage it should be 3 more inches until I hit full BSL or below when dry.

Not to mention I think I wanna grwo out my layers....it's gonna take me forever. I won't cut though until I reach at least waist. Other than S&D's unless split ends get too horrible.

I'm just curious because I want to start taking biotin soon, what was your dosage? and did you ever take MSM with it?

I am the suck at measuring. Right now, I'm at BSL curly, and almost belly-button stretched. I don't know where my waist IS, so I'm sticking with my non-scientific measurements.

I think buns really, really help. They protect your ends and give you length. For a while, my hair was really gross, so I bunned every day. That's when I noticed tons of growth. Now, I bun every frew days, so I'm back to a normal growth pace.

I can't really bun, I'm brushing BSL when dry and my hair is layered and really thick and buns for me not only don't look nice, but they never stay. The most I can do is a peacock twist with a hair stick and my ends are still out. Maybe I'll be able to bun when it gets longer and the layers get longer. I d think it will be a nice protective style for me, not really for out but I think just putting some oild or moisturizer on wet hair and bunning would be a great weekend style to help keep my hair healthy. It may help me get to my goal length a little quicker.

I completely agree with the bun comment, CE! I have nearly bottom length hair and every day for about 7 months I wore my hair in a bun and it grew sooo fast! I went from BSL to about an inch and half from my bottom in just a little under a year and my hair is still really healthy-no split ends or breakage.

do you have to be a certain length depending on thickness in order to bun your hair? I realize that wet bunning and oiling may help me reach my goal length quicker so I am anxious to be able to do it. Also is it just completely impossible to bun curly hair and ever be able to take that bun out and have half way decent hair?

You may just need some practice. Your hair, even with the layers, is more than long enough for bunning.

I can't bun mine and then wear it down later without redoing it. Buns alter the curl pattern.

You won't want to wet bun too often either. Wet hair manipulated is more prone to breakage than dry hair manipulated.

Really? I had no idea. This weekend I did wet bun, I put some aloe juice and some of my HairDidDiva on the ends and bunned it with a scrunchi, I can't get it to stay with out one. But even with the scrunchi I had to redo a lot so maybe I do just need practice. Today I think I may just mist it some with sone of my aloe juice and distiled water and put some more moisturizer in it and try to bun again.

So I am long enough even with layers...ok. I hope to be able to do it without the scrunci, maybe a cuter hair toy. It'll have to be my weekend hairdo when I have no place to go.

Well, wet hair is more slippey.

I like sock buns or a hair fork. But, stray curls do pop out and I am a big fan of bobby pins.

I'd love to see more tutorials for curly hair buns/updos. It's a lot different than our straight haired cousins who can just whip it up and have it stay with few tools to no tools.

I spend the whole summer in updos, with lots of buns. I bun my hair when I'm in a military uniform. It still needs some help to stay up.

A simple scrunchie holder is easy to do and easy on the hair is it's satin. But, the weight of the hair can get heavy, and it slips sometimes.

If you search for the "I'm bunnin' it"/bun challenge thread over on 4a, you'll see lots of examples of ladies there bunning for length retention. There are good examples and directions there. So many of the LHC examples are with straight to slightly wavy hair (or hair made straighter by constant updos), so it'll be good to check out that thread to see how curlies do it.

Yeah, definately, I'll have to check that out. I do realize that even making a commitment to wearing my hair up in buns it could help me greatly with my length, help me with tangles and dryness.

from what I've been reading updos and protective styles really help you avoid breakage and retain length. I really think that may be real important when you get to those parts where it just doesn't seem to grow. I think maybe I get to a certain length, I play with it more, it tangles more and gets caught on more things so it breaks off more and that is a big reason why my hair doesn't seem to get past a certain length. When I get close to BSL, I will either get bored cause it doesn't seem to be growing so I cut or I get caught in seat-belts, clothes, card doors and I think bunning will get me through those times.

Bunning really helps, or a half updo, it would get caught otherwise, especially at school.

Miyani, I don't know if there are tutorials here, but I think that you could find tutorials on youtube or the Long Hair Community.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Youtube has how to videoes. Buns are easy. I'm sure I could add more variety to mine to make it nicer but for me as long as I get it up and safe, and doesn't look atrocious then I'm good. I just kind of twist my length and wrap it around itself, tuck the end in and (if I'm home I secure with two scrunci's if I'm out I use a hairstick)

I bun the same way, but sometimes secure it with hair scroos. I have to learn more styles though.

I'll join - can I can I? huh?

I'm barely BSL when stretched but doesn't that count? My goal is hip stretched but waist is a good first goal.
