Compliments R Us

Salesclerk at Sally's asked me if "that was my natural curl" and when I told her yes, she said it was beautiful. I am floating, lol, because it's day two hair and I thought it was "meh"

A couple days ago: After a curl enthusiast at the grocery complimented me he asked if I "twist my hair around my fingers to get it that way" haha (of course I don't - each session would cost me a week and a half).

He definitely had the look of someone who will one day go into the fashion industry. He said that's he's trying to get his straight-haired mom to finger curl her hair after getting a bad perm I told him that's a lot to ask of his mom. ... OK, I didn't really ask that, but if he hadn't handed me my receipt so quickly I may have

I went to the movies with a guy friend. He has straight hair. He asked me "is that what they call a puff?". I said yes. Then he told me he likes my hair naturally curly. He said it suits me better.

Actually every guy I know who has commented on my hair has told me they prefer my hair curly. I agree that straight flat hair is not a good look for me.
After I transitioned from straight hair my natural 3b, I wore it curly to my high school for the first time since I moved. One of the girls in my class asked me if it was natural and when I said yes she looked at me funny and said I probably just braided it(even though they are obvious spirals) then the girl next to me whispered to me that she was just jealous of my beautiful long curly locks Me and her even became very good friends
My step mom's side of the family all have naturally pin straight hair and before I went full curlygirl, I had a lot of struggles trying to get effortlessly sleek hair like all of them. One day, after I had embraced my curls, we were having a reunion for that side of the family. They have a lot of girls on that side. Well anyway the two oldest sisters noticed my curls and couldn't stop talking about them. They were so jealous that I was naturally curly. The rest of the vacation they referred to me as "the pretty girl with the pretty hair". Not only was that my favorite compliment I've ever received, I am also no longer ashamed to be different and stand apart from my family members. It was so empowering and I felt so loved and appreciated. I'll never forget it.

A compliment I've gotten was that my curly hair is so thick and gorgeous, my mother in laws sister raves over my hair all the time.

I've gotten from random people if I curl my hair or if it's naturally this way, that makes me feel so good because obviously my curly hair looks good to the level of doing it myself lol.

Also, my husband told me that he loves my hair curly because it's so 'me' and I think that was the best compliment I've ever had

Today an associate told me "your hair looks so thick and healthy."

And later walking to my car leaving a restaurant a handsome man who was walking by said "I love your hair."

When I first did the BC I got several insults at work, [ignorant people], however outside of work I have always gotten compliments:

"I love your curls"..."I want my hair like yours"..."Your hair is so pretty"..."why did you have a perm"...

I was in Sally's the other day and a lady walked by and said "Hi, Pretty"...[didn't really know HOW to take that but since it hasn't happen like that before I just took it as a compliment to my new natural hair".

Also, men have been especially attracted...I am having so much fun!

Now that I think about it, even the insults have been compliments because:

People will ask if I have a "curl"...

Sad to say...some "natural" sisters, [who think being "natural" is hair that is dry, damaged and un-kept], will look at me frowning, or roll their eyes at me, or even say my hair doesn't look "natural", [huh , it is what it is].

Some of my permed hair sistas even get mad at me and talk to me with attitude - staring at my hair, or say [in front of people] that they "heard" natural hair is very difficult. I correct them with "easiest thing I have ever done, tell those who are having challenges to contact me or go to naturallycurly.com"...LOL!

Some of my Caucasian sistas with straight hair have even gotten upset when I get compliments on my hair...HUH???

All I think is my hair must look real good!!! HA!!!

Count it all JOY...

I know my hair can look unatural aka texturized aka jheri curlish is I use a large amount of heavy gel like ecostyler. I noticed people din't ask if I have a texturizer now I use other lighter products.

I've had a few people compliment me on my hair at work, especially after I got it cut.

One of my co-workers actually made the statement, "I LOVE your hair. Did you get it cut? Who cut it? Where do they work? I have a curly haired friend who would love to get a cut like yours!"

It was very nice to hear and really gave me confidence in my selection of stylists. The same co-worker made another comment about it a few days later on how she couldn't get over the difference and how pretty my curls were. What a pleasant remark. =)

Today I had a good amount of crunch going on when I headed to work. My hair wasn't quite dry when I arrived, but going in without SOTC was not an option, so I scrunched anyway. I thought this meant that I would not be enjoying as great a hair day as I could have. I got compliments from two people. One darling young woman that works on the other end of the floor stopped me on the stairs and said she loved my hair. A guy that works in the next building said "hey, I noticed lately that you are like Patti Labelle; you've got a 'new attitude". He put his hand up by his hair to show me he was talking about my hair and said 'it looks good'.
I sported a severe short haircut for a long time. I am loving having fun hair!
A 20ish year old bagger at the grocery store last night was gushing over my hair. "How do you make it curl like that?! I love it!" "How do you get it that color?! I love it!" "It just does it BY ITSELF?!! I LOVE it!!!" She made my day.

Then a cute guy said he liked my boots. It was a good day. : )

My curly friend told me that I was her curly hair inspiration. It made my life! I always have people playing with my hair, which causes frizz, but they compliment me as they do it so it's okay lol

CG since the new year!
I had just got hired as a PCA and I went to meet with the RN for the company. The minute I stepped in her office, her jaw dropped a little and she complimented my curls and asked how I got them so defined. Apparently her daughter has curly hair very similar to mine and she started asking for tips! We ended up chatting about curly hair for almost 10 minutes before we got back on track Lol. I sent her to NC
I thought of anther memorable one. I had just started dating this guy, and on our first date I had straightened my hair. Our second date we went out to a movie and I decided to leave my hair curly.

He asked me later why I had spent so much time on my hair since we just went to a movie and sat in a dark theatre. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him it was natural! He was convinced that I had spent an hour or two curling my hair!

I was shopping over the holiday season with my husband and we were standing in a ridiculously long line. When we got to the front, they had an employee directing people where to go (which register) and when she saw me she exclaimed, "Wow! I love your hair! It totally suits you. The cut, the curls, all of it!"

Definitely made me feel good!

I was finally well enough yesterday to go get the trim I had scheduled for last week. The stylist was wowed at how much curl I had since my first cut (in November). That was nice to hear.
She asked what I was styling with and I told her just a dab of SM milk and Moroccan oil mousse. As she trimmed, she kept raving about how great it was. That was nice to hear.
She cleansed, conditioned and styled it with Deva stuff. After it was dry and she sotc'd she said that she liked what I had done/used better. That was nice to hear. (Actually when it got even dryer, it looked really good, but she didn't get to see that.)
Today was my first day back at work after 9 days of illness. I am no longer contagious, but I am certainly not well; so I did the bare minimum getting ready, but I did shower and do my hair. In spite of feeling so awful, a woman who has gorgeous curly hair, from the other end of the floor said "Your hair just keeps getting curlier. Did you get a perm?". That was really nice to hear.
Lucky, I can scrunch in some product, pop in a few clips and let my hair air dry; I could not have done anything more today and apparently that was enough!
