Dumbest comment regarding your hair?

Like Tree192Likes

When I was in school I got 'CUT YOUR HAIR' yelled at me by a lot of kids for years. Clearly they meant that I should tame my hair somehow.

It's quite funny thinking about it now. Because it's actually the most ridiculous thing they could've 'suggested'!

Silly moo with very short poker straight hair yesterday insisting several times that
1. my waves/ curls are not natural, and
2. that it needed combing with an afro comb.

I told her several times it was still wet and gelled up so would look like noodles, but apparently she knows MY hair better than I do.

It may just be a total coincidence that loads of the guys in that extended social group compliment me on my hair.

When my hair was straight...

"Do you have a weave"?
"Can I touch your hair"?
One girl went to hug me and ran her hands through my hair. I didn't know what she was doing until my friend told me she was "feeling for tracks"...smh!

Now, I have my natural hair...

"Do you have a curl [jheri]?
"Is your hair wet"?

Why can't this JUST be MY HAIR no matter how I where it...smh!

Over, and over again.

I have naturally curly, red hair. Doesn't happen so much now. Probably because I'm a little older. But even when I was in my 20s.

Ugh.

"Curls aren't just for girls"
I thought about this thread today. I was thinking about the times when I visited my brother in Columbia SC. When I was 19, almost 20, I got a wild hair and decided to whack mine off. I asked him to drive me to the closest salon and walked in. I had spirals down to my elbows. The longer my gets, the curlier it gets. Anywho, I wanted Drew B's cut from Boy's on the Side, and that is exactly what I got, but much bigger because I would not allow anyone to thin my hair. When I came back home I went to my boyfriends neighborhood. I was sitting on his neighbors porch. He walked in front of me, at a distance, walked all the way around the house and came up behind me, examined my hair and said... "it looks like a bush. i like bushes." Feel free to let your mind roam in the gutter on that one. I did. Haha. Regardless, it was one of the odder comments.

When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

Back when I was about nine and used to brush my hair (EEUCK) this girl said "i can't be friends with you because your hair looks like a sheep"
LOL
I have very long brunette 3b curls. One of my straight haired friend who I had know for years and I were talking about hair and she asked what race I was. I told her I was Native American( I have the Cherokee nose and prominent high cheek bones) and she said she didn't know American Indians could have curly hair like mine. We arnt aLL POCAHANTOS OKAY
Everyone's replies are hilarious! And true... Almost everything I read has been said to me (unfortunately). Here's what is most commonly said to me-

"Your hair looks like *****."

"Did you curl your hair or is it naturally like that?" (Dumbest one right there. You really think I'd spend all that time curling EACH curl? Wow.)

"You should straighten it more!" (Actually super-offensive. Thanks for knocking my self-esteem down ever more!)

"How long does it take to straighten it?" (FOREVER)

"How come you don't wear it down more?"

"Ooh, it bounces when I pull on it!" (Oh, does it?)

"I can't see with your hair in the way..."

AND SO MANY MORE...
I was wondering if I was the only one with this- So people will often stick their finger or a pencil or something IN the curl, because sometimes they are ringlet-y. This has to happen to other with similar hair, right?

And also, people will say my hair looks like curly fries or ramen noodles, except for my hair is black/brown :/
These all made me smile. I can so relate.

I think the dumbest thing ever said to me was: "Oh girl....is that weave?!"

Seriously? NO.

Other things that have been said:

"How long does it take to straighten your hair?" (Way too freaking long.)

"Do you ever think about straightening it?" (Not unless I want to torture myself for some odd reason).

"You have soooo much hair!" (You don't say?)

"How long is it when it's wet?" (Much longer than it is now, but I can't give you a precise length.)

Gotta love people sometimes. =)

I get strangely overly-annoyed at the how long is your hair wet question.

If I stand on the tips of my feet I gain an extra 4 inches in height! Anybody care? Didn't think so. Cause that's not how I walk. My hair is only wet for a fraction of each week so who should care? Nobody, that's who.

Since I cut mine down, I no longer get that question. What a relief

I posted a picture being excited great curl definition on facebook a little while after cutting all my relaxer out. . .later that week I saw in my comments, 'Is that a gheri curl? lols, just kidding'.
Now seriously, we've had so many conversations about natural hair care how would that ever be funny and why would you go there?

This is the same aunt that kept insisting I should buy more products so I can make my hair curly when it was obvious it was already rather curly... smh
