Dumbest comment regarding your hair?

I've been asked a few times if I've gotten a perm. This is mostly from people who haven't seen me in a long time....those that always knew me with my former straight hair. I went from barely a wave all my life to 2C/3A hair after my last child was born. There is also a girl at work that started calling me 'curly'. I'll take that as a compliment )

Before I was CG, a co-worker/"friend" told me several times "You really should get a Brazillian (blow out)" when I was going through my hair anxiety. This is after I had repeatedly said I hate my hair straight and would never do a Brazillian.

Same person also told me later that the repeated blowouts have destroyed her curls. WTH?!?

I stopped talking to her about my hair. Duh.
CG since 4/15/12

does not love: non-cg ingredients, oils, PVA/PVP, synthetic fragrances or poly-quats

me (obsessing about my hair like normal): I like how my curls turned out today, but I wish I could make the top lay nicer

coworker: curly hair is supposed to be messy

a week later with the same coworker, the second I walk into work

coworker: how much crap did you put on your hair today
me: huh?
coworker: I bet you spend more on the stuff you put in your hair than what you put in your stomach
me: huh?

she has straight hair (obviously) but I feel very badly for her daughter with beautiful curly hair. She said her daughter grew out of her curls the last time she got it cut... I'm not sure I believe her
"are you black?"
"um... Half black, why?"
"your hair is so curly. Can you wash it? You probably can't."
"._."

Or

"god, how can you stand dealing with that hair all the tine?"

Or (very often from my friends with straight hair)

"do you ever straighten your hair? I bet you'd look pretty then."

"You'd look really pretty with straight hair."
- This was coming from a girl with amazing 3b curls who has straightened her hair every day since she was 15. Now I just feel sorry for her.

I've also had people ask How I planned to control my hair for interviews, if I'd flat iron, like it is some wild animal that needs to be tamed and straightened out.

It always shocks and annoys me that some people think curly hair is something that should be 'controlled' and therefore flat ironed (fried) to within an inch of it's life for it to look presentable. Curly hair is beautiful, different, versatile (we can straighten if we so wish) and it's what nature intended. Rant over, lol!

Four days into my CG journey, I had this conversation with a 70-something "friend":
Him: I have to ask you, did it hurt?
Me: *completely confused* What??
Him: When you stuck your finger in a light socket. Hahahahaha!
Me: Oh. Ha ha. (walking away, SMH and muttering, What are you, 10?)
I was about to go out with a friend who straightens herr hair. "Why don't you flat iron your hair before we leave? It won't take long." I guess she didn't want to be seen in public with me if my hair wasn't straight.

"You haven't straightened your hair in a long time." My boyfriend's subtle way of telling me I should flat iron my hair. Granted, it was back when I had just stopped being a flat iron junkie and I didn't know how to take care of my hair so it didn't look too great.
I've gotten "you look like weird al"
lol which really hurt my feelings in high school, but makes me laugh thinking back on it.

The one that I hated the most was for my senior prom, I had my hair done in a partial updo, with long curls in the back, and I had a girl tell me "Oh my god! Is that a weave?" I was like no?! It's MY HAIR. And she kept insisting "No, it has to be a weave!" I was like wtf? To this day I don't know why she said that? Lol
Wow... My supervisor at work refers to my hair as a weave, but I am certain he knows it's real and is trying to be funny. I'd be pissed if he insisted it was fake.
You can't stop my happiness 'cuz I like the way I am! -Hairspray
Dangerously open to product suggestion
3b, thick, angled bob, coarse, low(ish) porosity.
Favs:
Poo (when I get buildup): Bumble&Bumble Curly Shampoo
Lo-poo: L'Oreal EverCurl Cleansing Conditioner
LI: Aveda Be Curly Prep
Stylin': Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer for a natural full-bodied look, SheaMoisture Smoothie for finger curls.

I have gotten the weave thing too, from complete strangers: "Is that all your real hair, or a weave?" One time this woman asking me this reached out and touched it. While trying to touch it is rude, I feel like the weave thing is a misinformed compliment-- some people don't know that naturally curly hair can look good, so when they see our curls and like them, they think it must be fake. When we correct them, we're teaching them a lesson.
Formerly Urbancurl.

"How did you get your hair to do that?"
Do what? My hair looks like this naturally.

"You must wish your hair was straight...Don't you?"
Nope.

"Have you ever tried straightening it?"
Noooo. Never. /sarcasm/
Hair type: Mostly 3C, medium porosity to high porosity depending on the day, dense, fluffy, dry, tangly!
